I think I have a case against Nissan - Steering lock fuse

First answer me this - Do all 09/10 370z have the steering lock issue?

From what I have read in the forums, it seems that if you do not cut the wire or pull the fuse you are bound to have this issue whether your car has 3k miles or 100+ k miles. Also It seems Obvious that Nissan is aware of the issue otherwise they would have not taken it out on the 11/12/13 370z.

If all 09/10 370z have this issue and Nissan is aware of it (as they should) then why wouldn't they recall their malfunctioning steering lock, as a consumer I understand I should do the research of the vehicle I want to purchase but is it really my responsibility to fix a malfunctioning lock design and installed by Nissan. This is not a ware and tear item, it's not like a tire, or a clutch, or oil, etc. Nissan should take responsibility and fix the steering lock, it should not be the consumers responsibility to manually take the fuse out, or have to risk cutting the wired.

Recalls are for safety issues only I believe.

What if I was trying to get away from someone and I get in my Z and I GET THE STEERING LOCK FUSE AND MY CAR DOESN'T TURN ON!

That would suck! So yea it's related to safety

There is no problem with the fuse. The problem is with the lock. Pulling the fuse disables the lock.

Thanks for that, they should still fix it on all 09/10 370z if its just a matter of time before it happens to an owner that is not aware of this issue. Those of you who have taken out the fuse or cut the wired are the "lucky" ones I guess.

I havent been up on the whole issue, but I get the Jist of it all.. I have a 2011, so I never bothered to read all the info. My question is, How do we know that Nissan is aware of, and/or admits that it is an issue? was there a TSB put out? just curious..

Do all 2009 Z's have the issue? Probabally, but I pulled my fuse first so we will never know with certainty. Obviously I bet on it will fail for sure.

You are right about that dealing with Nissan.......09 to early 11 Maximas and GTR's are having the same issue day after day. I dont know about the rest of the 09+ lineup.

I thought they fixed the issue in mid 2010 builds. Mine was built 6/10. Should I pull my fuse?

And Nissan should have issued a recall. Why they havnt is beyond me..

Jasonle 01-09-2013 04:59 PM

did you check to see what steering lock you have? If you have Rev A,B,C it could go out. I would pull the fuse or buy the $50 bypass kit
