I will keep you guys updated on the situation. Like I said I was shut down by the Regional Specialist but I guess the supervisor will now be taking sometime to give me a call, they said I should hear from him in 4-8 days now I know that seems insanely long but I feel confident he will call and I will plead my case and hopefully I can actually make a diference.

GaleForce 01-09-2013 05:19 PM

Good luck!

just a hint, have you been writing down all that you talked to and what they said, do you have your case number?

All that is important just for record keeping in the future...

you can also email them at nnaconsumeraffairs@nissan-usa.com, if the supervisor does not call with in that time or ask when he will call, reference your case number.

it's a pain, but being persistence about it is huge, also have you mentioned that there responses/actions are being reported here, so they get an idea that it is important.

Last thing, I know it's hard at times, but always be nice/polite when you talk to these folks, I always allocate a dedicated hour, when I talk to anyone about a problem I am having, so they know I will give them all my attention.

just my 2 cents

Thanks for your 2 cents, I am very polite when I speak with them (at least I like to think so). I do have the case number written down, and I know they record the calls so I'm aware of not making anything up (nor would I). thanks for the information I will make sure I will give this guy everything I have. I wonder how high this guy is on the chain of command.

See NTB12-41 for the VIN of affected 2011 370Z's. Other Nissan vehicles were affected as well. See the NissanHelp.com website for a copy of the TSB. 2011 models thru about the middle of the year still incorporated the faulty steering lock assembly if I recall correctly.

I fought this fight with Nissan USA and wrote to a couple magazines including the now dead Nissan Sport.

The problem is that this issue has not been reported by the owners thru the proper channels for Nissan to issue a TSB.

mmmm Ive had my 2010Z for 2 years now. Havent had the issue yet.. I just hope It doesn't happen to me

SmallermouseZ 01-09-2013 08:01 PM

will this happen to 2012s?

daisuke149 01-09-2013 08:07 PM

yup you calling isnt gonna do anything except maybe they can help you out. For this to become a recall or a mass fix, every owner will have to call and complain. Or.. there has to be a case where someone gets hurt or injured somehow because the lock failed and thus that will reach the news.

Here's a list of the affected VIN's for 2011 and 2012 370Z Coupes per NTB12-41:

370Z 2011 VIN's after JN1AZ4EH(*)BM 551888 before JN1AZ4EH(*)BM 555448
2012 VIN's after JN1AZ4EH(*)CM 560001 before JN1AZ4EH(*)CM 560470

This would seem to infer that some 2012's have the steering lock installed. I've got and early 2011 with Rev E steering lock. I pulled the fuse.

Is it possible to create a post and have members sign the list? Perhaps with enough "signitures" as well as multiple posts showing this issue Nissan might take more action.

Does anyone actually know what the reprogramming of the BCM listed in the TSB accomplishes? Does it unlock the steering lock permanently or what?

This concerns me, for I took it in to Nissan on normal maintenance and they said I was not affected and my vin is 560069

Guess I will have to call Nissan and get some more information on this...
