There is a TSB (not technically a recall). Nissan will replace, no charge.

I guess my car is special in that it doesn't need to "handshake" in order to start. Not sure where you are getting this from? I've been dd my car for about a year now with no fuse for the steering lock. Car runs just fine...

The ESCL sends a "coded message" to the BCM and has two switches that must be in the proper state. Pulling the fuse only disables the motor that moves the lock pin. The electronics are still powered from the BCM. See the SEC section of the FSM for details.

The ESCL is, IMNSHO, pretty worthless to start with (and, apparently, Nissan agrees as they no longer install ESCLs on 370Zs). Why risk another failure for a part that doesn't really do anything? Pull the fuse. If it weren't for the "handshaking" signals that the ESCL has to present for the car to start, I'd remove mine completely.

I was confused on what you were referring to here. I thought you were saying to put the fuse back in and leave it in. You were saying you'd remove the whole ESCL unit if it wasn't for the handshake. Which yes, you are 100% correct. Reading comprehension fail on my part

Looking back at my post, I can see how it would be easy to interpret it the way you did. How 'bout we split the blame 50/50? :driving:

Well the dealership got back with me and said they have no ETA on when the part will get here. They said Nissan might work with me on a rental vehicle. Might?? WTH. Nissan in my opinion failed at this recall seeing that the service manager said this part has been on back order for months.

kenchan 03-20-2014 02:05 PM

yah... while you are  you could've just done the fuse pull or brown wire cut as explained 1000000012x on this site. :D

actually you still can. bring a small hammer and tap on that biotch to get it to free.

jayhuffdaddy 03-20-2014 02:54 PM

Definitely was not going to cut any wires on the vehicle. Dealership already has it anyways. I sent an email to Nissan and received a response within 6 minutes and a phone call saying they were extremely sorry and want to put me in a rental car while my vehicle is in the shop.

Edit: They put me in a 2014 Altima until the car is fixed.

Got the car back this morning. When I tried to lock the door the horn did not work. Dealership advised that the fuse was bad. They replaced that and now the horn sounds like a clown horn. Service manager stated that my horn was probably going out. I find it highly coincidental that the horn is doing this after them doing work on the vehicle. Thoughts please.

Just took my 2010 370z roadster in since my car would try to start then die yesterday, ive only had the car for less than a month, well at least the dealer found this recall and gave me a rental until they order and receive the parts

I had the regional vp of the central Division call me after I sent my email and the part was there the next day. Service manager was shocked.

So how long did the whole process take you from dropping off your car until getting it back?

Mine has only been there since this past sat 3/22 so I'm not complaining just yet :bowrofl:

It should since it's considered a recall, go to a Nissan dealership and tell them there's a recall on the car, I'm sure they will fix it, its a liability for Nissan to have cars out on the road that haven't been fixed due to a recall
