Never ever skimp on insurance especially if you have a lot of assets. The General is the type of insurance you get if you are driving a $1500 car and you have 2 DUIs and no one else can insure you. Maybe you should have priced good insurance before you purchased a 38k+ 2 door sports car.

progressive is, by far, the most helpful and lowest price company out there when i got my insurance (23, non-homeowner, single)

Rates are all relative to location as well, not just driving record, age, etc. I've lived in a half a dozen different states and have seen rates fluctuate significantly after updating policy zip code. I had progressive for 8 years and have had 0 speeding tickets and 0 claims on my record. Recently (last few months), a good friend of mine said I should look into Geico, as his rates were cut nearly in half. If I hadn't heard it from a guy i trust, I wouldn't even have checked into it. I called Geico and was given a rate quote with the identical policy specifications nearly 40% less then progressive. Being a loyal customer, I contacted progressive to see if they could stay competitive. The CSR was very professional, but informed me that they do not match rates. I had no choice but to switch to Geico.
I am sure many folks out there have had similar situation with various insurance companies. Moral of the story, dont assume you are getting the best. When we get comfortable, we get lazy. Nothing wrong with challenging the status quo. It's good for business and development.

Happy New Year Everyone!

 Insurance seems like a needless drain on your pocketbook ... until you need it. I carry at least twice the required minimum liability on my vehicles. I also have $500K personal liability with my home insurance in case you get hurt while visiting.
Sue me. I'm insured! :)

I'm in my mid-50s, decent driving record (only a speeding ticket every 4-5 years until my wreck about a 8 months ago), get multi-policy and multi-car discounts and I still called and checked the rates before buying my Z.

I'm getting owned by insurance companies in Las Vegas. $160 per month and I have a clean record. I do have about $25 in additional coverage. This is with USAA as well.

The General is ballin' though

I have Geico myself, but Progressive is cheaper by a lot in my area. However, someone I know of sent me this link regarding Progressive, so I've been wary to change to Progressive.

Interesting comments about state farm, been with them since I was 16, 59 now, never a problem on car insurance. Did get dropped on home owners for a year and when I talked to the agent, they told me it was a mistake somewhere and signed me back up. I pay about 75.00 a month for the Z with couple of multi-discounts. Will be interesting to see what happens... Thanks for the info...

I refuse to to do anything with Progressive due to that shrill wench beast Flo and her daily assault on my senses. I wish she and the general would be in a high speed collision with each other and die from the resulting explosion and mushroom cloud.

love Amica.. had them for a LONG time.. since I was 16... not going to say how many total years that is.. but probably longer than most here have been alive. ;) They have been a HUGE help when dealing with uninsured drivers that like to take me out.

I have USAA also. I'm 24 and married but I pay $110/mth.....but it all depends on state too. I'm in Hawaii now paying $110/mth. In Texas I was paying $185/mth. BIG difference but I'm not gonna complain lol.

i have a hayabusa, a srt10, and a 370 roadster and i pay 190 a month with statefarm for all 3

As started earlier, state farm is decent UNTIL something happens. Then your rates will either be doubled or you will be dropped. Ask me how i know.... Their quality has plummeted over the last few years

I have Ameriprise, it was the best rate out there, just finished my free trial of snapshot with progressive and now they r $100 cheaper than Ameriprise

I had a $20K+ wreck about 8 months ago - State Farm didn't raise my rate one cent and not even a hint at cancellation. Agent did say that if I have another wreck in the next 3-4 years that premiums will go up, but no talk of cancellation.
My daughter, also with State Farm (liability only, not under my policy), had a wreck about 2 months ago - no increase or cancellation. The agent did tell her that she was on thin ice, but she has only been driving for a year, so, at this point, her record is pretty crappy.

Sorry to hear about your problems with SF, but I have been very pleased with them.
