make sure they replace it right, if they don't remove the tower brace in the engine bay you may get whistling from where it doesn't seal at the bottom...

That's good to know. I'll have to try to remember that if/when I have to get mine replaced.

That happened to me a while back at first the crack was okay and Safelite said it could be fixed but when the guy went out he had to replace window. Insurance paid for it so no big deal. But the installer broke my pillars and I almost killed him with my stare. LOL so if you get a new one installed make sure you are paying attention because if they break it they should replace it.

I don't think they'll "repair" cracks, will they? I always thought they'd only fill chips to prevent cracks.

A crack deems the windshield structurally unsafe I would think.

But I have been wrong before. Once.

Cracks seldom stay the same size. Thermal cycling causes the crack to grow. High temperature differentials (eg, defroster in Winter, parked in sun on cool day, &c), also accelerates the process. I recommend replacement.

Chances are you already had a crack (or chip) you hadn't noticed. Then the temperature differential between the inside lamination and the outside lamination caused it to expand.

Saw this recently with a neighbor's truck that caught fire. Outside lamination was shattered all to hell - thousands of cracks. The inside lamination just had a single crack.

op- if this was a result of stress fracture you might be one of the very few with this problem. take a pen tip and see if you can catch an impact point on the crackline. if there are none, then chances are it's a stress fracture.

and yah, those pillars are nearly impossible to remove without breaking the tabs. heat and going very gentle might help.
