I don't care if you drive stupid, but...

Please, please, use your blinker so you let others know exactly where you plan on flinging about 3000-5000lbs of metal on the interstate...

Changing a lane? Blinker.
Making a turn? Blinker.
You think nobody is around and doing either? Blinker.

And no, the use of your blinker does not indicate your right of way. Be courteous and if changing into a faster lane, make certain it's clear and keep speed with the traffic in that lane. Additionally, don't pull out into traffic and creep across 3 lanes, making traffic slam on their brakes around you so you can make the next turn: get to speed while moving over, and if necessary, make a u-turn a turn or two up or two left turns. And, for the love of Zeus, if you mistakenly make a commitment to a turn lane, keep it and correct your err after making the turn - do not jettison back out into flowing traffic.

All these drivers make me frightened about getting my Z in the next couple weeks!

:eekdance:

/I might be overreacting
//It's a Z, worth overreacting maybe just a little

Haboob 12-10-2012 08:30 AM

Haha. I have been trying to get used to the unique blind spots in this car and have been using my blinker all the time.

It does make me nervous, because half the time I look two, maybe three times and still am not sure if there's someone there or not (when I'm actually the only one on the road!). :icon17:

one of my worst pet peeves, Cali is notorious for idiots not signalling. Pisses me the hell off. Especially when they cut you off then slow down. I'm like really??? F****** idiots :shakes head:

Drivers

Crap drivers. I love the goons who shoot up your arse and then when i will not speed up, they shoot to the next lane and do the same to another driver. If only it were legal to blast them off the highway.

That's why I was taught in a defensive driving course to constantly be scanning the mirrors - especially in a car with limited visibility, such as the 370Z - so someone can't sneak up on you. This constant attention to the surrounding environment precludes talking on a cell phone, texting, and other distractions.

How To: Adjust Your Mirrors to Avoid Blind Spots - Feature - Car and Driver

Try doing this. It's weird at first, but it almost eliminates blind completely for me.

nmjaxx9 12-10-2012 10:19 AM

I always use my blinker unless im speeding driving spiritedly. :stirthepot:

I adjust the side mirrors so that I can just barely see the rear fenders when I lean to the side or tilt my head - probably close to what SAE/C&D recommends. During normal driving, I can't see the fenders, but a quick lean/tilt reassures me that they are still back there. :)

USMCASA 12-10-2012 10:53 AM

you live in charlotte, ppl round there drive like ****. i don't signal anyways, i'm always way out in front lol

No fooling. Get in the left turn lane and go straight. I just survived such a scenario.

drivers seemed curtious when i was stationed there back in 2003. i guess alot has changed

I always practice "traffic prediction" techniques.

You can generally tell what someone is going to do before they do it based on their surroundings.

Hardly courteous here, they are very aggressive and do not use blinkers. Being from S.Cal and their often, the people out there are more courteous on the road.

I've learned that in Dallas, all Mercedes vehicles come from the factory without indicator bulbs.

Us mortals have to do the best we can to read the minds of benz drivers so we can guess when they need to get in our lane, right in front of our bumpers.

Maybe near your base or in the outskirts. Here in DFW?

1. No signals
2. The passing lane is the slow lane and right lane is the passing lane.
3. Everyone is talking and Texting while driving
4. more stop sign and red light runners I have ever seen in my life, so those cameras are making serious money here.
5. They think 4x4 means you can speed on ice.
6. They get road rage when they are making driving errors and start car bullying people which often leads to the road rager being shot dead right on the highway.
7. More fatal accidents in Tx than in any other state. Hmmm wonder why?

the list can go on

dmhenderson 12-10-2012 12:30 PM

If you set your mirrors properly in the Z, you can drastically reduce your blind spots. Checking your mirrors, NONE of your car should be visible on either side.

I'm from NY brah, only been out in Tx 6 years now. NYC is only aggressive during traffic hours and the dumb azzes in queens don't use signals. Especially the Cross Bay and Kissena Blvd areas. But aside from Ny being aggressive, they mostly drive with skill. so it's not as hard to be a good defensive driver in NY. Unless you drive in chinatown or the hesedic district. lol Thats some scary shyt.

Yeah, florida is about the same. Maybe a little worse cuz the roads are more congested. But they drive at higher rates of speed in tx which makes the likelihood of dying in your car that much higher.

I am fairly certain that blinkers are optional equipment on BMW and Mercedes -- based on my observations.

I also heard when you turn on german cars, a gas fills the cockpit that controls your mind into losing all sense of driver courtesy and respect.
:roflpuke2:

Naenyn 12-10-2012 04:49 PM

Then there are the silly people that leave their blinkers on all the time... We get that a lot here in Phoenix. I blame the snowbirds.

This. Plus get those little $2 convex mirrors from Autozone. I angle my side mirrors almost fully out, and set the fisheye mirrors to watch down my flanks. No blind spots.

I'm actually thinking about getting these once I get my Z:

get the f out of the passing lane then.

XiP 12-11-2012 12:09 PM

kinda off topic but I had a dream the other night that roads became obstacle courses with swinging wrecking balls, bottomless pits, etc...

i think if we implemented that in real life it would weed out all the bad drivers

boilermaker1 12-11-2012 12:18 PM

I feel the same way, you would think blinkers were an optional item on cars. What upsets me the most is when people go the speed limit, yet when they make a turn or change lanes they do it without a signal. But at least in Hawaii people for the most part wave or shaka to say thank you when you let them merge.

NewtoZ's5 12-11-2012 01:07 PM

People in Texas with there big *** SUV's and Pick-Up Trucks are the worst!:shakes head: People are so lazy that they can not even flip a switch:facepalm: This has always bothered me as well.

onzedge 12-11-2012 01:22 PM

Oh yeah -- I also hate it when people cannot find the "off" switch on their driving lights.
