Low gas indicator

Why is it that after it says 30km remaining the counter just goes away and displays "---" ? Shouldn't it keep counting to at least 5km left before it can't

Shouldn't it keep counting to at least 5km left before it can't tell how far you can go? Is it just my car or do you guys get it to read further?
