So this happened when I got my tires put on at Walmart.
So... called around to find the cheapest tire mounting service in my area. Walmart had the competition beat by around $20.
and this is what i got back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...029_072454.jpg Going to have pursue the managment. I also noticed i had roughly 12 miles less range than when I left the car. It also took an hour longer than the original estimated 1.5 hour wait. The mechanic also said "Car's got quite the kick to it!" when I picked it up. |
cars got kick in it? Yeah they def test drove it, just curious why not go to pep boys or something they charge 9.99 for a mount and balance, and another 9.99 to put it on.
Thats unfortunate, GL with the lawsuit/pursuing the responsible  :tiphat: |
Well i've heard horror stories about suing walmart.. they also have the largest legal team in corporate america. Pep boys said they wouldnt mount any tires i didnt purchase there. Pretty bummed about it.
|
Really? You sure, I got hankooks on order and im getting my rays powdercoated and when I get both, I am going to pepboys, they said they will mount any tires (regardless of you buy them there or not).
And yeah well hire a lawyer and sue them, you might come out a couple mil richer. |
Damn dude that sucks..
|
If someone drove my car without my permission I would be pissed AF. Especially a Walmart mechanic lol

Damn this sucks but you should have carefully inspected your Z after you got it back and pointed this out before you left
This is what happens when you don't go to an enthusiast shop, lesson learned |
Yeah and trying to be a smartass in a situation like this only makes things uworse, OP good luck with repairs.:tiphat:
|
Yeah it was pretty late and freezing out. so i didnt spend a lot of time checking it out, but i noticed it first thing in the morning.
|
Why would you let anyone at walmart touch your z? Lesson learned....good luck getting it sorted out
|
Dood... Walmart?? man... really. Dunno what to say, sucks about the Z.
If your Z is a 6 speed... man I'd be worried about them grinding gears and slipping the clutch. All around not a good move to take it there. |
I stopped reading at Wal-mart.

If you can I would also get an estiamte from a body shop for the repair so that you know what to ask for in terms of dollar amount I recently had to go after a city construction company because of an unmarked construction zone that damaged my car, everyone told me that I wouldn't get compensated for it but I pursued it and got the the company to pay my damages after I ended up going through my insurance |
walmart has cameras all over its property. you can demand to see them.
|
This is almost as bad as that Camaro sound recording that went around a little while back. I hope the make this right for you!

Walmart/Z I stopped reading at that point. Sometimes trying to save money is expensive. Good luck with the process.
|
Yea I'll always pay a bit more for service if I know I'll get a better job. Plus it's walmart. Hate to say it but you get what you pay for. Still sucks though and I hope you get compensated for it. Another thing to look at is that you noticed the damage in the morning, not at the walmart itself. Which means they might argue that they didn't do it and perhaps the damage could have happened on your way home. Good luck man. I'd be pissed.

Yeah, I'm livid. Walmart is one of the largest and wealtheist corporations in America, they have the same expectations and should have the same service quality as any other institution. I'm going to speak to a manager tonight after work. I will demand a copy of the security footage, and if theres any thing outside the ordinary I'll get into it. I've never been one to accept something like this.
from where it's located, it looks like they could have missed the jack when trying to drive the car onto it. |
unfortunate man, hopefully everything works out and your Z is fixed. :tiphat:
|
I truly wish you the best of luck on getting square with them. However, I never even take my Z into a walmart parking lot much less let anyone from that company touch her.
|
You know what makes this worse is that they didn't even have the courtesy to tell you and own up to it. That's pretty obvious and would be difficult to miss; they had to have felt it when it happened as well.
Let us know how it goes OP. |
Your first mistake was allowing walmart to even touch your car, I recently needed a wheel replaced and even the nissan dealer couldn't mount the old tire on the new rays wheel with out ruining it. The dealer ended up getting another new wheel and I had to take it to another Nissan dealer that had a touchless tire machine.
Before anyone works on your car you need to make sure they can properly handle it and will guarantee it. I hope you get them to pay up for the damage, it will be interesting to see how they handle it. If you need work done on a Z I would only trust a known dealer you worked with before and discount tire chain is supposed to great for wheels and tires on all exotic cars. Heres one for you about 5 yrs. ago I had new tires put on a Nissan Fronteir at Pep Boys in New York, I glance outside to see how its going and this blonde blue eyed 22yr.old tire jockey is beating on the center plastic hub caps with a big hammer. I asked what the F he's going and he said he's trying to removing the center hub caps and I promplty showed the idiot that they twist off by hand and he was amazed. |
For warranty work, I will visit the Nissan dealership. For everything else I have a mechanic. You know, a good wrench turner with his own business, whose livelihood DEPENDS on doing the right thing for his customers all the time. Sure, it may cost a bit more than getting your car worked on in the same establishment where you can buy diapers and cat food, but it is worth it.
Find a good mechanic, build up a good working relationship, and keep your Z away from Wal-Mart. Oh, and good luck with your Z. |
I totally feel your pain, but I do want to share my experience with using Wal-Mart to change my tires for many years on different vehicles.
I've never had a problem and regualrly use them. Quick service, low price and the people are actually pretty friendly. Now, I do take a few extra precautions to make sure no unnecessary driving happens. Anytime I take any of my cars in for any kind of work (anywhere - for any reason), I always write the mileage on a mini-post-it and stick it right on the speedo lens and snap a picture of it with the ACC on to show they both match. I keep the post-it's and a pen in the car. All my cars have those items in them and they come in helpful for other things too. I make sure to nicely, but clearly, tell the service techs that I already wrote down the mileage for them "so it's easier to see" and they can just leave the sticky right where it is. I've never had extra miles show up. I did ask recently and my local Wal-mart was very up front with me and said the tire changer they have can't accomodate the low sidewalls of the Z and they can't change them. My other cars have 215/45-17's or taller and smaller and they've always done a nice job for me. |
On another forum...they had a "beating a dead horse" smiley....we need that for this thread for the Wal-Mart bashing lol...
|
Kill them...
Next time, Costco or even Sam's Club |
Not trying to pile it on, but you get what you pay for. If you want to use Discount clubs, Pep Boys, Joe's bait, sushi and tires shop to swap out high performance, low profile large tires...then don't expect quality. Period.
Even experts such as NTB or STS Tire, who do so much of their business on tires, stand a good chance of not doing a good job. They are fine for 185/60-15 Camry tires. High performance? Hit or miss. I have had good experiences but also folks who have scratched what should be simple 225/45-17 tire changes. Larger rims are harder to work with and require very good equipment *and* a work environment where there is both skills and accountability. $10/hr grease monkeys tend to not take too much pride in their work. I recently paid 40/corner for mount/balance at a Porsche dealer. Wheels came back perfect with no scratches. I expect to do so with the Z and the Nissan dealer when the time comes. - b |
Les Schwab FTW!!!!!!
You get what you pay for!!! That sucks man I feel your pain but Wal-Mart!!! Even there oil changes Gross! Your cheaping out bro. |
"cheapest" you should have expected that.
The word "cheap" and a $30k+ car just dont mix very well |
Discount won't even drive my car onto the lift, they make me do it... and this is just my SRT.
I don't know if it's because no one knows how to drive stick or they are just genuinely afraid of damaging it... yet they drive other vehicles onto the lifts no problem. |

I hate the Walmart and refuse to buy anything from them or use their services due to their labor policies. I used mr tire last time for the Nismo tire purchase, balance and mount. They did a great job and did the alignment. Hope you get it fixed but I bet they will claim it happened after you left. Good shops will inspect your car with you and verify its condition before they touch it. That way, no arguments about damage.
|
Sorry about your car. I have to be honest though.... i laughed when i read Wal-Mart.

I hope you will have the problem resolved ASAP with the least headache. They are the largest retailer in the world, but doesn't mean they are good... Do you think McDonald's makes high quality food?? :wtf2: They make high Calories food, that's for sure... |
