People have different definitions of "spirited driving". If you really push the car, it will overheat even in 60 degree weather. But even if you don't, if you get stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on a 100 degree day, temps may elevate.

My advice would be to drive the car for a while and watch the needle. Determine if pushing the oil temps high is even a risk, given your driving parameters. And then decide if an oil cooler is necessary at that point.

If you have any aspirations to track the car, you will need an oil cooler, and it is advised that you swap to better braking fluid and racing brake pads if that is the case.

I live down the I10 from you in the Palm Springs area. I have a 2012 Z and have been driving in 115 degree weather with oil temp at 190. I only have 1800 miles on the car but so far so good.

You also have a 2012 that came with a stock oil cooler.

No fooling. I am the person you described. 59-60 ambient temperature and 260+ driving home.

I got an oil cooler and even flogging it at the track has never yielded over 260. I once hit 260 at the track on a 99 degree day. I consider this a cheap solution not a band aid.
