My uncle is rotory mechanic. He told me about that mod because i always bust his balls about rotory reliability. Supposedly it's pretty hush hush, I think it might even be patented.

Great car choice, post some pics, that is a relatively rare model/combo.

Why spend all that money on the conversion when you can do more for less?
Because he'll have the money and time, and also, diesels burn better in general, very fuel efficient (running out of oil sometime in the next century, possibly).

The Spirit R Version were the last FD produced total of 1500 ...ONLY in 2002

Type A came standard with dufferent suspension wheels , upgraded engine , dials, numbered plate signed by manufacturer .
One of the most sought after and collectible FDS

How to identify your JDM!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"im still adding to this.

Well there is quite a few import rx7s in Australia, while the S8 *(JDM - S5/S6) Rx7s are quite common as imports in Australia. There has been a number of personal imports that have slowly flooded into Australia. Large numbers of FDs also make their new homes in Canada, Europe and other places.

Well I thought I might make a list of the different types of models of rx7s that were sold within Japan for those who are not sure of what model car theirs is.

Firstly, the vin!

The first digit after FD3S shows the production run,

FD3S1##### = version 1 (1991 - late 1993)
FD3S2##### = version 2 (Late 1993 - 1995)
FD3S3##### = version 3 (1995)
FD3S4##### = version 4 (1996-1998)
FD3S5##### = version 5 (1998-2001)
FD3S6##### = version 6 (2001-2002)

Remember that the models names such as Series 6,7,8 were something that was created in Australia. In Japan, Rx7s are identified as belonging from one of 6 types.

Version 1 (1991- 1993) *all 4 seaters
Type S - base model, front spoiler only, no airbag. Colours the same as type R.
Type S - Auto
Type R - performance model, different suspension, all body spoilers standard, lighter weight, am/fm radio, manual aircon, colours; same as Type X but also had competition yellow.
Type X - lux model, leather seats, sunroof, climate control, cruise control, 16inch rims, rear spoiler was an option, drivers airbag, Cd player. Colours; Brilliant Black, Montego Blue Mica, Silver Stone Metallic, Vintage Red.
Type X - Auto
Type RZ -

Version 2 (1993- 1995)
Touring S -
Touring X -
Type R -
Type R2 - No rear wiper, front spoiler only, no stereo, stiff suspension, light weight, Chaste white, Brilliant Black, Silver Stong Metallic, Modena blue, Vintage Red.

version 3 (1995)
Touring X -
Type R Bathurst -
Type RZ -
Type R-SR - Made to celebrate 30 years of rotary Mazda Rotary engines, Mazdaspeed special chrome ringed dials with unique style. Special colours, Brillant Black and Sunburst Yellow. Metal foot plate in passenger side.

version 4 (1996-1999)
Type RB -
Type RB Bathurst -
Type RS -
Swinging X -
Type RZ -

version 5 (1998-2001)
Type RB -
Type RB *(auto) -
Type RB S Package -
Type R -
Type RS -
Type RSR - special Sunburst yellow availiable, unique anniversary speedo.

version 6 (2001-2002)
Type RB -
Type RB *(auto) -
Type RB S Package -
Type R -
Type RS -
Type RZ -

Great car - I talked to a guy with a really clean FD at Laguna a few weeks after I got my car, and I have to admit I did have a spike of jealousy.

That said, most of the FDs around here are so beat on and are old enough that I just didn't want the hassle of yet another Great Car That Always Needs Something (TM). I needed a break from them.

Now if they come out with an FE with the right specs, I'll be all over it
