MGT Blendmount anyone?

Anyone using the MGT Motorsports Blendmount to attach their radar detector to the rearview mirror? If so, I am interested in fitment and quality observations. Thanks. MGT Motorsports Shopping Cart

I am using BlendMount for the V1. It's made of Aluminum and the quality is quite good .

I think radar detectors are funny. They only detect rogue radar. radar if its used at all is only a verification of what the operator already knew. meaining most of the time if your radar detector goes off your already had. Just because you have been spotted doesn't mean they are going to go after you. They will protect you from a lazy person who just switches the unit to constant on, but believe it or not thats rare.

Yes, went ahead and ordered mine first of the week, it came in and is now installed. I agree, the quality and design is very good, highly recommended.

I disagree, if you've got revenue generation going on on a busy highway most of the time the cop is shooting several people a minute, looking for the biggest fine. A higher end radar detector will pick that up well in advance and give you time to avoid a potential ticket. Now if the radar detector has been off for some time and you are the lucky winner there's not much you can do about it. That has never happened to me and I'm almost 35 now.

I have the new Passport 9500ix which has GPS. If it picks up the same signal three times it filters it out and you never hear it again. It also tells you of any red light or speed cameras too, in fact it warned me this week of a red light camera ahead.

Also, I drive the same route to and from work every day. I know the usual speed traps and the occasional speed traps. The cops always trigger the cars they want to check in an attempt to avoid being detected. My Escort will pick up the trigger plenty far enough in advance to warn you to slow down. Now if you are out in front on the pack and no one has passed the cop for some time, you might get triggered and caught, but with plenty of traffic on the road these days that rarely happens...... also, an awareness of the trap locations and the fact you have seen no traffic ahead of you to "trigger" your radar detector, you slow down until you pass the location.

That GPS is a great feature, mine doesn't have it, but I do know the very few false alarms that exist on my usual routes as well. My detector has saved me numerous times. Some might think this is an excuse to drive recklessly, I don't drive too fast for conditions (IMO ). Most of my detector use comes on the interstate, where the speed is ridiculously set at 60 MPH on a 6 lane section with limited access......... at 60 you get run off the road, everyone is doing 70 or more.

I can see the GPS as being pretty awesome for the photo radar. I think my pioneer f90bt has a mod that adds photo radar locations to the nav system.

I had a typo in my reply, I meant that if the cop has instant on and he hasn't been using it for some time, and you're the first person he nails there's not a lot you can do about it.

I'd much rather see the po-po out solving actual crimes instead of harassing the remaining people that still have jobs and are contributing to the tax base. Most speed limits are ridiculously low, many unchanged for 30 years even though there have been huge advances in car crumple zones, braking distances, air bags and so on.

If people are driving recklessly or impaired they should be taken off the road, but doing 70 in a 55 on a nice day is not dangerous.

I upgraded from the Passport 8500 to the 9500ix. The 9500ix is worth it's weight in gold. First, any of the Passports will pay for themselves in a month or two if you drive fast in a highly patrolled area. Second, the 9500ix never ceases to amaze me. The GPS for the redlight feature is nice downtown just to give me the "hey *******, redlight camera coming" reminder. But what makes it worth the price premium is the GPS integration for learning false alerts. Living in downtown Chicago, I have numerous businesses in my area that used to set off my 8500. When I got the 9500ix, I just drove around the neighborhood a few times and the darn thing learned every single false alert. Now it's dead silent unless there is a cop or a redlight camera approaching.

Hands down one of my best purchases of 2009...and my wife will tell you I buy things constantly
