Default How to achieve 0-60 from stop?

I've never dumped the clutch from stop since I don't want to abuse my car, though I would still rev it up from gear to gear. However, I have attempted several time from the stop at the traffic light trying to accelerate as fast as I can by basically starting at around 1500 rpm on 1st and going through each gear sequentially. I upshift to 2nd around 4k rpm, and then shift at 6500 on 2nd and 3rd.

Ok. Perhaps I shouldn't say this is by all means accelerate "as fast as" I can. While after 3k on 2nd, and then 3rd of course, the car really starts to kick it, but from full stop, with the way I describe above, the car just doesn't seem to feel torquey. Is that normal? or is there's something wrong with my engine?

So if one wishes to achieve 4.5 s from 0-60, does he really need to dump the clutch at 4k+ rpm on 1st?

First thing to do is remove the stoplight from the equation and take yourself to a strip to practice this.

That's the point though. It's not like I want to endanger the street, so I'm only doing the safest and fastest way I could've thought of on the street. But it just seems to me the car wasn't that fast by driving the way I described. For example, a freaken CR-V can be as fast as me if he floors it. Get the idea?

Dude, a CR-V couldn't beat a Z 0-60 if it fell off a mountain and raced the Z to the ground. The 2012 model does about 8.4 seconds.

You will never achieve 4.5s in a 6MT. From what I have seen it is really only possible in the 7AT. Your technique is also flawed since you're short shifting. Aim for mid to low 5's at the drag strip and you'll be faster than and econobox out there.

Really? I thought from the spec sheet I read, the 6MT should have faster 0-60 than the 7AT. Anyway, I know I'm short-shifting by driving the way I described, but I don't want to rev it up too high in 1st gear as well.

Ok. Let's say when you stop at a light and you're the first car, now that you're starting from 1st, when (at what rpm) do you shift to 2nd?

When I "shift" slowly at 3k in every gear, I often find myself being "pushed" by some a-hole pickup from behind.

It takes quite a bit of practice with 1st gear since its so short its easy to break traction. They way I launch is rev to 2k let the clutch out like normal and once you feel it hook up don't just floor the gas instantly that only causes tire spin or traction control to kick in if you have it turned on. Once the clutch is out I gradually increase throttle input. Also, make sure your tires are warmed up for best traction. If you let a CR-V beat you definitely doing something wrong. Why are you shifting out of 1st at 4k anyway? You are trying to beat the CR-V right?

I think you just need practice shifting/clutch engagement better. ...more importantly, you need to let stupid stuff like stoplight racing go. You already know your car is faster, so what's the point? Save the racing for the track and practice if you want to learn how to launch a car properly.

No, I did not try to beat a CR-V. That would be silly of me even trying to do so. That's why I said the CR-V just flied by me while me accelerating as I usually do. And no, I usually shift at 2-3k in every gear. My point is, with this car, even if i just accelerate normally, shouldn't I be able to beat regular sedan or SUV at ease?
