How long did your insaurance company take to get your car drivable again? |
Sorry for your loss.
What do people do after this happens? You can't just load the car on a wrecker or just leave it either. |
man that's a crappy deal. sorry to here that.
one member did ask a good question. don't know if it was answered are not... what would these wheels fit on. would you need some kind of special spacers or something. i mean you would have to be one stupid SOB to buy these wheels. they would stick out like a sore thumb on any other car... kind of like the vette wheels would. |
For sure the first thing I'll do when I get my Z is to head to the nearest Viper alarm dealer. Any impact or trying to jack up my Eclipse and they get 100 DB siren blasting, outside and inside the car.

High Point is the worst btw... It took them about 2-3 days from what I can remember.. And then it was all up to me to look for the rims. My appraiser was some @sshole that kept trying to give me less money. I was arguing with him that I had the sports package rims and he told me my car came with 18'. He was telling ME what option my car came with obvious was wrong since I had the spoiler and bbk's rofl...:gtfo2: In the end they skimped me out 1,000.00. Saying that my rims were not new since I owned the car for 2 years. Which I found ridiculous... Also did not help that my local Police Department blammed me for not purchasing Wheel Locks. :gtfo2: Is it that hard to patrol a 1 square mile town. Good LUCK! |

Holy crap
See thats the weird thing with the Z, on one hand, I think a lot of people don't mess with them (theft wise) since they are a bit more scarce...but then on the other, they seem to still be a target here and there due to this. When it comes to the stock wheels I guess they are only going on a Z or G (for the most part) so more chances of tracking them down |

Which reminds me, I need to start looking for a new insurance company after I move this weekend. |
Considering I own a B.S. Z it makes me very sad to see that picture. I wish you the best with your insurance company and keep your head up. Even if you find the theives, handle it appropriately. Don't do anything of physical harm to them, you're smarter than that. I know it sucks, but there is more to life than our cars and it will always continue when you aren't behind bars over a monetary object.

Those whole cars get chopped and shipped to europe or canada if the mark demands it. When they just steal the rims? They're just filling in an order from a base or touring-only Z owner that want sport rims. Its all mob run. |
srs, someone plz come and get mine... no locks and i'll even leave it out of the garage overnight for ya :tiphat:

I feel like a fool for buying the locks.
I was away from home last month and needed to remove the wheel on my Chevelle. I didn't have the key so I hammered a 19mm 12-pt deep socket over the wheel lock and I took it off with no issue. There are videos on youtube about this, it's sad how easy it is. The socket expands a little and grabs the outside of the lock. |
yea you pretty much FUBAR the socket but you can get the locks off... small price to pay for high $$$ wheels
|
Locks only keep the honest man honest. If someone wants them bad enough they are going to get them and there is nothing you can do about it sad to say. I am sure most do but if you have not and have expensive aftermarket wheels make sure they are on your insurance...cuz they will be a hot item especially in certain locales.

Agh! The sucks!!
|
IMO wheel locks don't prevent wheel thefts, all they do is cause troubles for the owners when they lose it or they snap, break or come loose! You don't even have to use google, just search from this forum alone
|
Dont waste your $$$$ on wheel locks. I have had wheel locks a number of times and my wheels STILL get stolen. Prepping your insurance company is the best thing that you can do IMO

The best deterrent against thieves is light. Always park in a well lite area even if its further off where everyone else is parking.
Next, though expensive, get an alarm with a tilt sensor and while your at is get a shock/glass break sensor too. Alarms don't do much because of idiots who get the proximity sensor that sets off the alarm if a bird fly's by but its going to take at least 10min for who ever it is to jack up a car and remove the wheels. And having an alarm blaring is going to be a decent deterrent too. |

I'm just stilled baffled that someone has the balls to put a car on blocks (even if its 2am) and steal 4 wheels from a car right on the street...they must work quick
I can only imagine its not the most well lit street or you're on a very quiet street so not much traffic. |
If they have cased the area they know your neighbors are not up at a certain time say after 2am or so... safe bet most people are asleep. In a neighborhood probably with zero traffic so no one is going to know until its too late. The only deterrent there would be an alarm to wake someone up...other than that get a place with a garage....if it is out in the open its just time and opportunity waiting to happen.

Maybe you NY guys should plan your own sting operation. Park your sport packaged Z in prime theft conditions and just wait for the thieves. This is the only proactive method of reducing the theft. Cops don't care and there is no serial numbers. Insurance companies end up with a profit in the long run as our rates continue to climb. |
:icon18:
Good way to get killed. |
Update: Just got a check of $6,820 what option do you guys think its better?? get the OEM or go aftermarket? Which aftermarket is popular on the Z370 (esp Silver)
|
Good job! I guess, sucks to hear what happened still. Everybody will tell you to go aftermarket and keep the change, but from personal experience, I'd say go back to stock again or hell, even downgrade a bit to the base 18" + spacers. There is a possibility that they will be back and if they see TE37's or something nice/aftermarket, it's deja vu all over again.

Holy hell. That's some Super Laps and meaty tire right there!
|
add 3k and get adv1.7 with red timebomb-line *_*
|
I had a vivid dream last night that this happened to me.. Says alot about the sport wheels that people want to steal them
|
Buy some new wheels and get a better alarm with shock and tilt as someone else mentioned here. I have never had anything stolen from my cars but attempts have been made and most likely they stopped due to my noise maker.
Last time which was quite a few years ago was my modded 2002 Mustang 5.0, I came out in the morning and found my passenger door lock popped out but door wasnt opened and no other damage. I didnt hear anthing but my alarm indicated that the shock sensor was tripped. Turns out the car parked just 10 feet from mine was stolen instead so I assumed my alarm is the only thing that made them go for a cheaper more quite car. |
