Why did 370 Z go with Oil temp. guage?

Just wondering why the 370 went with an oil temp guage instead of oil pressure guage like I had on my 350Z? I really got used to monitoring the pressure.

cdoxp800 07-03-2012 07:56 AM

So everyone could make a big deal about Oil Temp,

owi1kenobi 07-03-2012 08:01 AM

i also miss my 350z's oil pressure , i like looking at those needles going up and down like tach.

And you know when you about to go into Limp Mode. :stirthepot:

Red__Zed 07-03-2012 08:26 AM

So you know why the car decides to kill power

HKYStormFront 07-03-2012 09:38 AM

seriously though OP, the VVEL system adds a lot of heat to the oil system so the car got a factory gauge for not only the driver but also the car itself to keep track of oil temps and go into limp mode to protect itself if it has exceeded the factory limits (think it's 260*). oil temps were not really an issue on 350's unless they were tracked hard all day. doing a short stint of spirited driving, lets say on a nice mountain road, will cause oil temps on 370's to start climbing.

UNKNOWN_370 07-03-2012 11:10 AM

Oil pressure gauge would have been nicer than that stupid fkin clock.

elmz 07-03-2012 11:37 AM

Agreed, I also miss the individual tire pressure readings as well.

RexB 07-03-2012 12:26 PM

If the point of the gauge cluster was to play off the retro look, at least they could have used an analog clock. Just sayin'...

That would be really cool! That said like most others, I'd rather have the clock in the info display and use that location for other purposes.

UNKNOWN_370 07-03-2012 03:18 PM

Maybe this rant can get to nissans ears and we'll see these changes in the Z35???

SPOHN 07-03-2012 04:16 PM

Even if they had a oil pressure gauge the stock one probably wouldn't be that great. One is not really needed anyways on a oem na setup. But I recommend one if your running a oil cooler. Plus I love modding so it gives me a reason to buy something,

My Datsun 280Z had an analog clock in the cluster. I like the continuity (of the past) but I'd much rather have useful gauges.

This I would like now. Goes with useful.

I had a serious lapse in judgement around the end of 2010 and purchased a Chevrolet Cruze--a waste of a year of car payments. However, it had a good TPMS in it--a reading for each tire. If a cheap Chevy can come with this feature standard, it shouldn't even be a question on a Z. It should be there.

Like Nissan cares what we think..

If they did, they wouldn't give us Oil overheating and fuel starvation...:stirthepot:

sonic370 07-03-2012 08:43 PM

because nissan knew the 370 had an oil temp issue but released the car anyway. so they put an oil temp gauge instead of pressure gauge. which every
sports car worth's it's weight has one, but not the 370.... and the clock was a stupid idea. that's what we all need is a clock sitting on the main docking pad...

also loved the way nissan built a imho world class 2 seater around a radio shack
base sound system.... sorry to rant but hey still love my car.........

Bucketlist2012 07-03-2012 08:46 PM

The 370Z is the "best bang for your Buck", but the Dollar is only worth 70 cents...

:iagree: it would be better. But I think there could be better uses for those spots depending on what your plans are for the car.

I will share my plans for the centre gauge cluster when I go FI. I want to remove all of them and replace them with OIL Temp, Wide Band, Boost gauge/controller (like the AEM true boost I had in my Z32 2 different settings :driving::happydance:)

Like sonic370 said previously, Nissan cost cutted any type of oil cooling so they thought well we better show the poor customer how hot his oil is becoming w/no sandwich plate cooler.
:icon18: he he he! F**K You Nissan! :icon23:

99% of OEM oil pressure gauges are slow and inaccurate, aftermarket is far better.

TPMS is complete BS and waste of $$$$. This was standardized on passenger vehicles thanks to all the lazy asses that can't check their tire pressure once a month.

Also a cheap Ford Focus comes with the blind spot mirrors and other low end cars have the blind spot indicators which is a standard safety feature. But Nissan...NO!!!!! :shakes head:

My Jeep Cherokee has oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, Transmision temp, tire pressure on each tire and alternator voltage.

Perhaps Nissan assumes that people who buy Z's know how to drive.

so true tpms are joke. it came on yesterday and I had no idea
which tire it was even by looking. had to check every damn tire

mattleegee 07-04-2012 09:37 PM

first world problems

but once you have individual TPMS readouts, its hard to give them up
