Is the trolling line out?

Cmike2780 06-29-2012 09:16 PM

Doesn't really make sense unless he's hitting the track or auto x.

HerOuji 06-29-2012 09:18 PM

What ever happened, I'm glad you are ok.

SPOHN 06-29-2012 09:41 PM

Sounds like driver error to me

buddyZ 06-29-2012 10:53 PM

nothing crazy but i had to make a quick hard stop only at 75 mph and these brakes are soft and weak. Still wish i got the sport package.. this is brutal..

Cmike2780 06-29-2012 11:43 PM

Soft and weak? The base brakes are more than enough brake force for that and the advantage over the sports package stopping distance is minimal. The advatage with the Akebono's is really only noticeable if you track or autox the car which requires constant brake cycles that generate a ton of heat. It's not really 'safer' than the base brakes, but they are better for other reasons. Base brakes 'almost killing you' is a bit of an exaggeration and you'd probably be just as 'almost killed' doing the same thing with the Akebono's. They do way look better than the base brakes though.

+1 Driver error. Best brake mod is a good set of eyes (.)(.)

Nismo89 06-30-2012 12:06 AM

well i would presume that you have new brakes on order? if your gonna be stopping regularly at 70 mph. then get better brakes, otherwise the regular base brakes are more than enough stopping power.

no idea what caused you to have to stop suddenly at 70 plus mph but if you want to spend the cash on minimal gains over the stock brakes, (depending on what you get) go for it, i know i certainly dont go Balls out and to the wall everytime in the my car. i want to make it last and speeding on the highway is a good way to get my take taken away. lol

"soft and weak" has me wondering what exactly you were doing..... lol if it was on a track id understand ...the best defense to this andto avoid is using your eyes to see whats ahead and get ready for it (change to lower speeds and gears)

Get the Z1 upgrade and make sure you get stainless steel brake lines, use a temperature resistant brake fluid like Motul RBF660 and select pads with aggressive initial (cold) bite. Sounds like your issues are in street driving, I suspect that your problem is one of response rather outright stopping distance. This setup should help in that regard. Once the brakes are into the ABS mode it's all up to the tires so make sure you'll got some good ones.

370Z Purist 06-30-2012 12:26 AM

Initial bite is helpful, but making a hard stop from 75 mph would be largely unaffected. Doing the bigger brakes with SS lines, better fluid, and better initial bite would barely affect stopping distance in a significant fashion. A buddy of mine can easily lock his tires using 10 inch rotors and drum brakes. Bigger brakes only benefit in longer lasting, high heat applications, not total stopping distance. Gotta cut weight or get better rubber for that (or both).

Compdoc777 06-30-2012 10:24 AM

Base brakes are bad I have searched and noticed there are no specs on stopping distance with the base brakes.

Yet, if someone here thinks the base brakes will stop in 70-0 in 157ft not happening.

The sport and Nismo can stop in 70-0 in 157ft the Camaro ZL1 does it in 159ft the corvette grand sport in 157ft.

I would like to see some tests. Surprisingly Nissan does not offer any specs on there site.

I had problems with my Base Brakes on my 350Z...But I was asking too much of them..

The car had way more power than it had brakes...So it was up to me to either upgrade the brakes, or do not depend on them in a high speed stop..

i just bought new Sport brakes....Oh and the touring 370z to go with it...

Mt Tam I am 06-30-2012 11:38 AM

I've got the sports package but have never heard anyone complain about one stop with either set up.

Bacon makes everything better ( I actually have a shirt that says this)

Not liking bacon is just un-American. So basically, to sum it all up, if you don't like bacon, you're a communist.

Our enemies don't like Bacon...

Maybe we should wrap some gifts in bacon and send them to them...

Did I hear bacon???

Bucketlist2012 06-30-2012 01:56 PM

Honey cured, hickory smoked, thick slice...

gr8-wrx 06-30-2012 02:27 PM

IMHO, if you weren't on a track or AutoX, you're driving too fast for your brakes on the street anyway...

brucelidat 06-30-2012 03:10 PM

hey, get back on topic, we were discussing bacon here...

Real Canadian bacon is back bacon, not pork belly like typical American bacon. Sometimes, stuff sold as Canadian bacon can just be ham.

Bucketlist2012 06-30-2012 07:19 PM

I am going to the butcher tomorrow...

I need some Canadian bacon please...

Also don't expect to use the power of these Z cars and expect the regular brakes to stop it, if you are driving fast and hard..

These cars have more power than brakes..

Now back to bacon

onzedge 06-30-2012 07:22 PM

Without bacon, pigs would be completely useless.

Bacon should be its own food group.

Nismo89 06-30-2012 07:46 PM

i tend to take a liking to good ol Turkey bacon. nom nom nom

sonic370 06-30-2012 08:09 PM

so is it bacon or brakes..... won't knock the base brakes here because i have never driven one before.... but the sports package are as good as they come
for everyday driving. and will get the job done from 70 to 0 when the need is there. are for that matter at any speed................

What?!?!?

I thought the OP wrote that "bacon" almost killed him. Duh. Brakes... oh, that puts an entirely different spin on this thread.

Bucketlist2012 06-30-2012 08:14 PM

Why can't it be bacon and brakes ?

I know from the 350Z, it had more power than brakes. base brakes..

You could get yourself in trouble if you weren't careful.
