Should I confront them?
The thead below about the Z getting hit by other cars got me to thinking. Right now I have a house with attached garage so no problemo when I'm parking at home but I also have an apartment paid by the gov where I work that has underground parking. I have a spot beside a guy with a beat up car and a crappy motorcycle. In order for him to park the motorcycle and his car, he has to cheat way over near the line on my parking spot. We both have two spots enclosed within large concrete pillars on the ends of the two spots. Not an issue now but when I take possesion of the Z I was thinking of writing a note and putting it on his windshield asking to move over a bit. Do you think this is risky or out of line? I'm a bit worried about repercussions and I try to be non confrontational to a fault. Basically it has gotten worse and his tires are just about practically on the painted parking line. I can't cheat too far away from him because there is a huge pillar that could **** up my door. It's pissing me off thinking about it. I don't want to go to the building staff just yet and want to solve it in a mature fashion. Any advice?

You might try to talk to him on a mature manner before involving the building staff.

Make it your concern for him. Tell him that your new car has really wide doors and you don't want to damage his vehicle(s) - could he move them over a bit?
|
If your car get's f'd up, at least you'll know who did it. I would just ask the guy.

I agree... talk to him in person if at all possible in a non confrontational way (show him the new ride). He isn't really doing anything "wrong" if he is staying within his spot so a letter may come off in an accusatory tone.
I've unfortunately dealt with people in apartment complexes that put their needs before the courtesy of their neighbors. |
tell the guv'ment to "take care of it"
nah, I agree with scottIN I would have no issue moving over a bit if someone asked me politely. |
You could back it in allowing you to cheat closer to the pillar.
|
I would just move.

Yeah, it wasn't a concern at first because he kept his moto in a section that couldn't be used for parking and he parked his car very centre of spot. Now, since the weather is riding season he keeps it in his spot so he can wheel it out easily at my expense. I might try to see if there are any better available spots. I did leave a note on his windshield but I chickened out last night and went down and removed it. I thought it had too much nasty tone. Don't have the Z yet, hopefully today. |

So help me if it gets scratched or dinged by their beater car I'll turn the lime green Kawi into small bits of plastic. well, not really but I'd be pissed and probably no proof. I'll snap a picture if I get a chance. Here is a quick pic. |
Set fire to his POS!

It was said in jest. If the OP goes through with it... well he didnt get the disclaimer in life that he would be held responsible.
|
Tell him to park the bike in front of his stupid car!!!

EDIT... It's too late to get one now that I think of it... |
I would wipe poop on his car door handles and motor bike grips, then wait for pink eye to set in.
*this is merely what I might do, I in no way suggest that you do this* |

I used to think it was pretty funny too -- torch a car here and there -- no big deal to do this if you are making a point. Seriously, what's a Molotov Cocktail or two between friends? Whopping it up on a Friday night with some homemade thermite -- those were the days I can tell you. Nothing gets giggles quite like the gasoline and potassium permanganate in the glass bottle randomly tossed at an SUV, if you ask me. But the fun ends when someone gets hurt. Imagine losing your parents in a horrible fire, their bodies burned to a crisp and beyond recognition, all of their worldly possessions reduced to ashes -- just because someone thought it woudl be cute to torch their car because they parked to close to the line. Then the burning car engulfed their home, taking away the dearest people in the world to you. can you imagine how that would feel? -- How that moment of retribution escalated into unspeakable tragedy? Can you imagine that? Can you? It never happened to me, but I guess it would be awful if it had. -- onzedge has written |

If he is parking within the lines there is no argument even that when he open the door it could possible hit your car.
Can you get another spot? |
Maybe a product like this Magnetic Car Door Protection, Car Door Protectors, Car Door Guards, Prevent Car Door Dings and Dents might ease some stress. I have no experience using this product, and I cringe with the though of sticking something to the paint of my car, but The micro marring would be easier to deal with than a dent.

Definitely talk to him and you can take the approach of being worried about "his" property if you even want to be super delicate about it
I would for sure try to discuss face to face if possible instead of a note as "tone" could be subjective in the note...just like it is on forums sometimes lol. |
To be fair, if he sees the next spot is empty, it's normal for him to park close to the line. Otherwise, if you had already parked your car there for a long time, did you get a ding so far? In any case, say hi to him and maybe start a little chat and/or buy him a coffee first. :hello:

Here is a picture. The GMC Jimmy was my father-in-law's, who passed away a few years ago but the Z will be there any moment now. This is where I live Monday-Friday but my own house has a nice attached garage. The problem is you can only cheat so far, the pillar to the right is a real danger to the driver door if you back in. The Z is even wider than the GMC. The dimensions look a bit deceptive in that the pillar next to the drivers door is closer than it looks in the picture. If all else fails I'll just drive the Z when I get back home on the weekends. His motorcycle isn't in the picture but it's now kept between the pillar and his car.
