so my perfect flawless Z has hail damage.
I'm really upset right now. I have 11 concave dents from a hail storm I was caught in this afternoon. NO paint or clear damage. The dents are perfectly concave. Two of them are concave but so small. I wonder if they'd be too small to actually pull?
5 on the hood. 1 on the drivers side fender a small one on the driver side hatch B pillar, 4 on the roof which one of those is small as well and my glass remains flawless. Though most are larger than the small ones, like I said they are perfectly concave with not too much depth at all. From left to right you don't see them, but from right to left they become visible if you look for it. Do you guys think I can fix it without going through extensive body repair? Or is this a situation that always warrants expensive repairs? |
Man, I'm sorry to hear, unk :(
|
Sorry to hear that...
I live in the land of Earth Quakes and no hail storms, so I have no idea. I am only here for Moral support... Again, sorry. |
Thanks shado, bucket..... its upsetting but I'm not trying to trip over it. I never been through this so I figure i'd get some knowledge before flipping my wig.
|
I could be wrong, but I believe that sexZness and/or 370zproject have had this problem before. You may want to ask one of them.
|
Kool. Hopefully they'll see the thread.

le sad :(
|
Oh no! Sorry to hear that...

Good luck with repairs! Here's a hug: *HUG*

sorry to hear. :( PDR should fix it. the aluminum hood is going to be a biotch to push but if the dent is small enough it should be fine.
also they wont pull it unless it's inaccessible from behind the panel. it's a lot easier to push it from behind vs pulling it. :) GL |
Ouch, I'm really sorry to hear that man :(
If theres any advice I can give you, I only have this youtube video to spare. I've been keeping it JUST IN CASE: Compressed Air Dent Removal - YouTube |
PDR techs (including me) laugh at that. lol
|
I had a 98 accord that got caught in golfball sized hail. AFter the storm looked like someone had taken a sledge hammer to all the body panels lol. Had to basically have an entirely new body put on the car. Thank you insurance haha
|
Same thing happened to my 350, had an F4 tornado about 15 miles from my apartment and there were no garages. Z took a beating, new hood, 90% new paint and the plastic panels above the door, not sure what they are called exactly were shattered. It was around 2g in damages since they doors, hatch, roof and glass all took a beating too. The only good thing was when it was all done, car looked better then new! Good luck and hopefully it gets repaired quickly, It hurt to see the car as beat up as it was and it took nearly a month to get it repaired. Research body shops before you make a decision, it was a pain, but I went to one that was not on the insurances companies list but I knew their work was not only warranted, but they were one of the best shops in the area.

This thread reminds me of that BMW dealership in TX that lost a few BMWs to a hail storm..

sucks for your Z.. http://www.the370z.com/members/kenny...rldproblem.png at least TX has 85 mph speed limits and an awesome governor.. LOL.. |
My car doesn't look nowhere close to that. From 10ft away it doesn't even look damaged.
|
Sorry to hear, OP! :(
Great thing about PWs is dents are not very apparent at first glance. I had substantial amount of dents on my hood and across the natural lines of the hood, which I was told would've been a betch to repair with/via PDR because of the lines. Hope your hail damage isn't anywhere near the lines :/ I also had - well, still have :facepalm - a couple of dents on my roof but they're small enough that they aren't very noticeable. GL with everything and lmk if you have any questions. |
Thank goodness it wasn't worse.....did you see all those cars on the news that got completely demolished? GL with repairs.....time for a new CF hood? lol. Luckily over here in frisco we didn't get anything tonight.

Most storms skip Plano/Allen/McKinney so I've been very fortunate this week :ugh2:

Lol welcome back bro :hello:

Man I feel your pain. :( Sounds like you have little enough damage for paintless dent repair. My friend's car got hit bad and they made it look like new.
Our area of town had a huge hail storm pass through last year. SO many cars got totaled and used cars because in short supply soon afterward. Our old accord was one of the cars that was totaled. Ironically, our Camry, which was in the shop for transmission issues, was completely fine since the shop moved it in. If ONLY that was totaled too, we could've just taken the money and gotten another car. |
Sorry to hear man. I have a few dings on my Z from debri from semi's, small spots from bugs (got majority of those out), and worst of all is tree sap apparently ate through some of my paint so I have a few small whitish spots on the car :/ 3 or 4 of them actually ate through the clear coat too. Piss off I am :(
So side note if anyone knows how to get my paint back to virtually flawless I would greatly appreciate it :) |

It hailed golfballs on my 08/altima once and it didn't get a nick. When you have fun transportation vs ur baby/project car. Expect all bad things to hit it. When I saw those 2 gencoupes smash up and I barely missed it... I knew my car would be blemished soon, somehow some way. MURPHY'S LAW |

Sorry to hear, man. Hopefully it's fixed without too much hassle.

Man that sucks. I know how it feels. I was caught in a hail storm back in April...pulled over as fast as I could and listened to the marble sized hail ping off the car. That is the thanks I get for doing a good deed of picking up a friend..would of never been on that side of town otherwise :shakes head:. I dunno how I made it out with Zero damage as it hailed pretty hard for about 5 minutes. I did suffer a pretty good sized chip in the front bumper on the drive home out of the storm though.
I hope they can pull the dents out and get it back flawless. |
OP, sorry to hear that. Hope they get fixed easily. Considering some of the damages I saw on the news yesterday, yours sound minimal. Good luck with the repair. We did not get any hails on our side.
|
Heat gun and ice.
|
Yeah, some cars got totally beat out here. I consider myself fortunate not to have had worse hail damage. I was really upset last night but today its like IDGAF. As we say back home... "Ay yo, shyt happens ehh!" Lol. hopefully I will get good news on this... I'm going to get it checked out now.
That's if I can get in. I'm sure they are packed in this area today with all the damage. |
the aluminum is tough to work with when it comes to fixing dents. the paint wont flex as much as the aluminum will either.
best of luck! |
Man that storm is all over the news....Hail the size of Hockey Pucks...
|
holycraps on the bmw's. that would be better off getting new panels or written off. :(

PDR is the way to go but get opinions on reputable shops first. Generally they try to get behind the dent and massage it out so access to the dent is the time consuming part and where you want a reputable shop so they put body panels, trim and interior components back together they way they should go. The majority of the cost there is time, despite the tons of special tools they have to reach up through narrow spaces to get behind a dent.
For those places they can't get behind the dent they use a hot glue method that works really well - essentially they use various sized disks that they glue to the dent and they slid a spring loaded puller over the disk and 'pop' the disk off the car, which pulls the dent. Then they massage the extrusion (extremely small) down flush. That method takes about 1 minute per dent but is not usable if the dent is 'sharp' and might cause the paint to come off. The tech did mention that aluminum was a lot harder to work with. I had an MR2 Spyder with significant hail damage to every body panel (probably at least 50 dents) and the end cost was about $2500. GL - sorry to hear about it. |
