Default Follow Up from Consumer Affairs (Oil Cooler)

Just to let everyone know that I have received a follow up call from Nissan regarding the oil cooler issue. They stated that their research is over on this issue and that they will not be offering an oil cooler that will be covered under warranty and that the vehicle performs for its intended purpose. Define intended purpose is that at this price point nissan belives the 370z is a daily driver car not intended for sport driving. (no reason to purchase the sport package for any buying)

So Nissan will not be doing any of us any favors, as far as the warranty goes still could not get a very straight answer and would still be a case by case issue. They did make the remark that by installing an oil cooler that it is viewed as a competition part that has been placed on a vehicle that is not intended for competition use. So I will let you read between the lines.

This issue is closed for myself and will consider the options that are available.

that totally sucks, maybe over time when many cases are filed with them....they'll do something.........

so the Z is not a competition car....makes you wonder why they list it as a performance car with the Gt-R next to it on their web page....

i don't see why you think getting the sport package is unwise. i'm all for the better wheels, lsd (even if its not the best), srm, etc. its not like i'm going to track my car.

Unless it over heats on daily driving, they will do nothing!

when people start abusing the issue and bringing in cars for repair after they go into limp mode, they may start doing something.

Just install an oil cooler and call it a day! If any issues happen that would need a warranty repair just remove the cooler. They will have no idea it was even on there. Just like anything else you "bolt on" your Z!

Maybe I missed something, but in order to have an oil cooler, you'd need a send and return?

Then again, I guess one could do that off the oil filter mount with a little engineering (huge idea...plus be able to relocate the filter or use a bigger one...)

I don't think they are going to have all that many cases being filed with them. I don't see this car overheating even in aggressive daily driving. I can't blame Nissan for not wanting to warranty a car that is used extensively at the track. How many of those cars are going to remain completely stock anyway?

I think the best way for Nissan to fix this "problem" is to just replace the oil temp gauge with something else.

So, by definition then, the Nismo performance version is #NOT# a "daily driver", and will both have an oil cooler and extended warranty associated with same.

Or ... did I miss something in between?

(I've got both an oil cooler and transmission cooler on my GMC Yukon. 5.7L, pure 1950s technology like the Atlas rockets -- designed with a big cabin space so you don't have to doff your cowboy hat on entering and able to haul a half-dozen heifers to market, yee-haw.)

I think its been confirmed the NISMO 370z will also not have an oil cooler.
