Den, Aoyama, Takeuchi's initials for DAT Automotive Manufacturing Company in mid 1920's. aka DATCAR.
first model was considered their son (but "son" can be read "loss" in japanese) so changed spelling to 'sun' as in the rising sun. you put DAT and SUN together to get DATSUN. when nissan took over the company they changed the DAT abbreviation to mean durable, attractive, trustworthy. |
