Morning all,

Going to get my ART pipes installed today :) Can't wait, just worried about leaking. Srenity suggested making my own gasket so might do that and will buy some OEM gaskets too just incase!

huhhh??!!! wtf kinda dealer is that? it's not a special filter. you can hop on over to a honda dealer and use a honda fit filter even. hahahaha! :icon17:

hey mr.gale. yep, i did test the fake sony mic and the bullet looking real sony mic. i used my HU in my Z to benchmark where the gopro's internal mic was clipping to gauge where the best s/n would be.

1. gopro clips at 12 on the volume level on my pioneer.
2. fake sony from polarpro or waterver they're called clipped at 10.
3. bullet sony doesnt clip at all even at 12, but the sensitivity is much lower.

so i ordered yet another mic. lol :icon17: the sony one but the real one because the real one is less sensitive to bass and a lot more flat per the comparisons i saw. this could be the one that might work in my car. :p i will run another test on friday hopefully.

in the mean time, i ordered a backup 32GB class10 just in case something happens to the one i have right now. been pulling the thing in/out many times so i think sooner or later it's going to break or i will drop it somewhere i wont be able to find. :eekdance:

if the real sony fails too, im going to wire up a small 10k ohm resistor on the fake one. that appears to attenuate about -6dB and should work.

btw, that cupholder mount place sent me an email stating that the unit is indeed a defect and will arrange to get me a replacement.

I'll bet you end up with the fake and the 10k ohm resistor for a mic. Also GJ with the cup holder mount company

yah, until i have the exact mic that works for me (or a setup with a quick mod) i wont post it as it probably wont work for others.

the fake sony one isn't too bad. sensitivity is almost right on, but just needs to be flatter and/or attenuated 5-6dB for car use. i found in-line attenuators online so worst case i will use that. sad is the thing costs more than the mic. lol :icon17:

Would you say the fake Sony was better than the Audiotechnica that everyone uses?

Good morning crew :hello:

Mr.onzedge, did you kick azz with your presentation?

Mr.onzedge, how's the presentation??

'Morning

Bucketlist2012 06-14-2012 09:33 AM

Morning all.

The Wife and I are taking the 370Z out today..

She is trying to "save" her baby....

For what I don't know, but the little beast is going out today.

She drives first, and then I get to drive it...

Should be fun, what am I saying, it will be fun..

kenchan 06-14-2012 09:49 AM

hey there mr.alcheng! :hello: sorry to hear about your flight ordeal. :( i too hate connecting flights but some rural areas, wat can we do? not going to drive 7-8hrs just to get there. lol

thanks for your suggestion again on the 50mm. my camera is a cheapo D3100 which is a DX type with autofocus... it's cropped sensor and all. i think just from this i would go with the 35mm as most reviews are pointing that direction. :)

yes, the audio is a problem on the gopro. even if one has the best matching mic, it will still have that high pitched internal noise. :ugh2: but if i use background music it shouldnt matter as much.

I'm all for protecting an investment, but I'm a stickler for detail and I hate that I can always see the edges of a clear bra. I'd just much rather get a respray now and then. Just my $0.02.

yah, repaint is the best way to go for sure. clear bra is for those that dd their cars and get hit by rocks often on hwys. it's just a nusance protection really. i have clearbra on the rockers and will be replacing them soon. it's got a lot of nicks from kickup.

mr.gale - hahahaha, maybe! :icon17: it's good to have several mics though as i can swap them out per application. :)

for in-cabin yes. if you're wanting to mic up the exhaust, then no. the mic will clip very easily. the fake mic would work well for non-car things i think...like taking vis inside the house or museum or something indoors. no wind cover so need to get one if for outdoors.

the real sony one should work well.... that's what im hoping.

the other sony bullet looking one would work just as well as the audiotechnica mic, it think. the sensitivity is near the audiotechnica...and it comes with the wind cover. the issue with the bullet is i think it was made for dictation/voice so the lower frequencies are cut out. it sounds thin. the audiotechnica has a fuller sound.

as a mic, the Rode was very good, but overkill for gopro internal audio due to high pitched noise... also needs attenuator as -10dB setting is too soft, -0dB is too hot. Rode is a mic id use on my audio recorder. but my tascam recorder already sounds very good for wat it is so didn't feel like keeping the Rode.

bottomline.... dont spend a lot of cash on the mic for gopro. if you want real recording, use a separate audio recorder and use the gopro audio to sync. :)

I have nothing planned for the Z's today. The last two days were amazingly brutal. 9 hours of presentation Tuesday and Wednesday with only a 30-minute lunch is pretty tough for an old guy like me. This was the culmination of a few months’ worth of work and now we get to wait and see what they decide.

The drive home from Menlo Park, dropping one of our guys at SFO on the way, was big joy-time. 125 miles in 3.5 hours. I love the bay area sometimes.

I get bored so I look at cars. Remarkable vehicles I saw, along with their sighting frequency, were:

350Z 14
240Z 1
Nissan Leaf 1
Toyota Echo 4
370Z 0
Ferrari Enzo 0
Nissan Juke 1 (mine)
Assorted Riced-out Acura/Honda/Mitsu 53
Toyota Prius 4,325

Good advice here ^^ thank you.

I'll probably pick up the Audiotechnica because I plan to mount it outside the vehicle near the exhaust. I don't think I need a mic inside the car, nobody wants to here me breathing, farting and swearing at other drivers. :icon17:

the Z does not use any 'special' filter. one can source one anywhere pretty much, even walmart has M1-108/M-110 and HP-1008's.

:rofl2: hahaha. if you dont have one already, i recommend a tripod to hotshoe mount as that mic had no shotgun 3/8" screw hole on the bottom of the hotshoe for some reason. :ugh2:
