What did you do with your Z today IV

Nice little turnout for our meet this morning. Chris410 brought his new GT500 and ZCarMan brought along another new friend in a Fiat 500.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. I'm going to sit down and finish watching F1 qualifying and relax. :tiphat:

Nice pic Steve! What's your impression of the GT500?

m4a1mustang 06-09-2012 12:44 PM

I like them a lot. Chris' is a 2010 model so it's not the new '13 which I haven't seen yet. I'm afraid if I see the '13 I might end up buying one.

happytheman 06-09-2012 12:47 PM

Starting price...$54k!

With the options I'd want its more like 63k. Electronic dampers, recaros, track cooling, etc.

I just don't like the idea of spending a lot of money on a car. Not yet anyways.

Ordering a Whiteline rear sway bar today! I have heard nothing but great things about it.

Just the rear?

Yeah for now. Fontana Nissan had a sale going on. It was like $160, so I couldn't pass it up. I will pick up the front at a later date, but figured since the rear was such a good price I should go ahead and get it before the price goes up.

Should I wait on installing the rear until I get the front also? Or will it be fine installing them at different times?

thanks, mr. gale. :hello: roll off is 12dB/octave per their spec. it sounds like those noise-cancellation headphones when you turn this on in a plane. lol

at 0dB attenuation facing the rear, the input level is too hot in the low frequencies and my audio clipped. not only did the exhaust tone clip the signal, low frequency noise from road bumps also clipped it. the physical suspension bands were doing a good job isolating bumps though.

since the mic was facing the rear there's no depth in the sound, almost sounds like putting a mic in a plastic box. my tascam recorder had great depth when placed in the cupholder. (just jammed the unit in there partially wrapped in mf towel. :icon17: )

so tomorrow im going to try front facing and attenuate by -10dB. will try both flat and high pass filter. i prefer to have no roll off as it sounds more natural. in a car 40hz roll off imho is better as you can maintain the rich tonality of the exhaust. the tascam offers this and real-time input levels, but the rode is just a mic and so only offers 80hz roll off.

unfortunately the high pitched noise is still in the audio, generated by the gopro. but even with the failed attempt today, when the audio was not clipping, it sounded much better than the gopro's built-in mic. :)

more tomorrow. :p

Hmm, some good testing there.

I wish these manufacturers could do something about the high pitched noise. May as well not even bother offering a external mic input. :shakes head: I did some reading (google) about the high pitched noise... No fixes yet other than doing what you did with your Tascam. Not an ideal solution.

Pint I have the Z in the garage waiting to drive back to the dealer Weds. They are about 45 miles away and the ZL1 needs prepped cause it had just come off the transporter.
