Default smoked lights

I've seen some varying smoked lights that look pretty nice. I was just wondering how people smoke their lights. Is it paint or overlays? I also notice some people change out little strips and parts of the headlight. Would love to see pics of people's different smoked lights and how they did it.

its both. some go through the trouble of removing them and painting and baking them. i see less people doing the tint. i want to tint mine but i heard one person say that THEY heard that it could increase condensation within the housing, thus causing the bulbs to go out prematurely, (this happened to someone they knew, i think). not sure if the tint has ever been proven to be the culprit though, since it was an isolated case as far as i know. good luck finding someone to try to tint those tail lamps. looks like a heck of a challenge even with a heat gun!

I don't see how adding tint would cause excess condensation. I've seen plenty of lights that people disassembled and put back together that got condensation inside, though. You gotta make sure you seal them up properly.

I did the bluebatmobile 20% overlays at first and I wasn't very pleased with the results. So I got the idea from ZCarMan to paint them, mixing a few drops of black with clearcoat and spraying it in coats to desired darkness. It looks stunning and even better waxed.

I had bluebat tailight tint and wasn't too impressed either. Mine cracked bad. I have a guy that does full car wraps that may do my tint soon.

OP Check the DIY section, as there are a few stickies on the subject. Painting all that chrome to black is the way to go, I'm just too scared to do it myself.

tint is very difficult to apply considering the shape of the z's lights.

VHT nightshade is your best bet

They may look cool.

But the people I've noticed in So Cal w/ smoked lights are typically douchebags driving Altimas and 300Cs w/ 22'' chrome wheels.

Also, smoked lights scream out, "pull me over officer!"

No thanks.

Temple City Sheriffs don't mess around and they will pull you over and cite you. Smoke lights are not Department of Transportation approved.

They can stop you JUST for smoked lights? Lame. I'm pretty sure in AZ it's a secondary violation.
