How useable is the rear hatch area in a 370Z?

I've driven the 350Z but not the 370Z but I can't remember how much room is back there.

Could one fit a road bike back there with the wheels removed? I'm an avid cyclist and this is a must for me.

I found a nice 2011 model year with nav and leather for $33,999. Only 5 miles on it and I'm kind of considering buying it.

Thanks!

Iv seen someone do it on here.. Il try and find the thread for you. Had no luck on a quick search.. Or you could always get a bike rack.. (cant believe I just said that)

kenchan 04-12-2012 11:53 AM

get a WRX hatch instead?

Chteelers 04-12-2012 11:59 AM

Not sure if a bike would fit or not. I would say I have been surprised how much I can fit though. Got to be careful things don't punch the glass when closing.

Also, I've found the black plastic inside to be much more susceptible to scratches than other cars I've owned. Even a slight touch will put white scratches in the surface. And bikes have lots of hard points...

The Z is my supermarket car.

JulesD 04-12-2012 12:08 PM

That's disappointing to hear. I really like the Z...

I have a Maxima now but it is getting old and I'm thinking of what I'm going to replace it with.

mantella87 04-12-2012 12:10 PM

You can fit a decent amount of groceries back there.

What do groceries have to do with a bicycle?

I searched and found this thread. Apparently you can fit a road bike in with wheels removed. Someone even posted a pic! :)

I mean if your looking to strap a barbecue grill, some bikes, and some Ski's then the Z is the completely wrong car. It's a sports car.

Nothing really, but the title of your thread is, "How useable is the rear hatch area in a 370Z?"

No, just a bicycle. I'm aware of what kind of car the Z is. It will be my daily driver but I also need my daily driver to occasionally haul me and a bicycle to meet up with friends to go riding.

I don't think it's a particularly strange question.

It is a strange question. Bicycles and Z's aren't a good combo. You should get a WRX. Perfect match.

One bike? I'm not hauling a family or dogs or BBQ grills. We're talking about one 17 pound carbon fiber road bike. I'd bet it is cleaner than most of your cars.

I used to put surfboards and a bicycle in a Mustang GT.

The WRX is ugly as sin. No thanks.

get one of these instead...

... dang it was just a suggestion for having a Z and a bike you can take with you without looking rediculous.

I don't think this looks ridiculous at all. Looks pretty practical to me actually.

Better than having a rack on a Z, that's for sure.

Yeah, that's why I asked about fitting it in the hatch. I've taken both wheels off to fit in a trunk before. They have quick release and the seatpost has quick release so it's really not that difficult or time consuming. I also have wheel bags so that helps keep the inside of the car clean and the wheels protected from rubbing against the frame of the bike.

Nismo89 04-12-2012 01:30 PM

for me, my mom drove mine to the grocery store one day and "forgot " she had the Z lol and bought a little over $200 worth of groceries..... towards the end of putting them in the trunk, it got pretty tight i must say but we did it and it fit.

bottomline of what im saying is..... yes it doesnt have ALOT of space but it certainly has SOME space lol

supunna_picta 04-12-2012 01:37 PM

Imagine if I went to a road bike forum with a picture of your bike and asked "What mountain bike tires will fit this? I mean, I can only afford one bike but I need to be able to ride dirt trails with it on occasion." What kind of responses do you think I would get. This post is the sports car equivalent so don't feel bad that people are replying the way they are.

Now that you know it can be done you should take your bike down to the dealer and test fit it for your final answer.

Hope it works out, the Z is a lot of fun when you're not riding your bike.

I disagree. The bike clearly can fit.

Nobody fits mtb tires to a road bike.

Cars are generally multi-purpose vehicles. How many things they can do depends on the interior volume and many other factors. Now, if I went on to a Lotus Elise forum and asked this question... that would be ridiculous. ;) You can't even fit a bag of golf clubs in the trunk of that car.

not hate with bikes. hate with roof racks, bike racks on a sports car. :)

Its only like 25lbs, just eat less and u can make up the weight difference.

appearance, wind drag, high cog, etc. etc. not just weight.

mantella87 04-12-2012 03:14 PM

A bike rack has no place on a 370. That's like an E92 M3 with a snowboard rack on it.

The bike hitch sits lower than the trunk floor......
