The above applies to what I call "Harley guys" not "motorcycle guys" or bikers. Harley guys are the guys that won't even acknowledge you unless you're on a late model Harley or a chopper that looks like it came from Orange County Choppers. Motorcycle guys aren't total snobs; Harley guys are.

When I was younger my best friend's family had several Harleys. They get the loudest possible exhaust for safety reasons, not because they're trying to be cool. Louder the exhaust, more likely a car will notice you on the road.

This has been widely shown to have little-to-no evidence supporting it (save for anecdotal).
