Next Gen Z will likely have smaller engine.
First time poster, long time browser. Interesting article on motortrend.com. States the next Z and it's engine will likely be smaller. Also the Silvia may be returning.
We Hear: Possible Nissan Silvia Revival, Next-Gen Nissan Z May Use Smaller Engine - WOT on Motor Trend |
if it gets any smaller I won't fit :/
I would really like something the size of the cayman. The cayman and 911 looks so much leaner and not as bloated as the z. I would also like a much smaller gtr.
Boo. I really had my heart set on a 400Z.
We are all going to be dead by then anyways. 12/21/12, also Snooki's baby is due that day.:stirthepot:

Z34 Nismo becomes instant collectible as most powerful Z made in history of Z cars. Love it!
Z goes down market to fight BRZ. |
Ugh. Make the car smaller/lighter but please don't downsize the engine!
boosted 3.0 :stirthepot:

Pleeeeeease revive the Silvia!
Now I'm rootin harder for the FRS BRz to succeed
smaller boosted engine would be great along with a lighter car. High 300 hp range and better mileage along with a lighter car would make me seriously consider trading in for it as long as its new iteration is as sexy as the current one.
That's interesting. I wonder if it's so that it can fit in the Datsun lineup. I have no doubts that if it's in the Toyota FT86/Subaru BRZ class, the new Z would dominate. Either way, I'm keeping my Nismo 370
Yeah a more refined / durable engine would be nice. One that doesn't overheat so easily and sound like crap in ^ RPMS.
Something more like the I-6 T / N55 but higher revving. Mercedes has a nice 306hp V6 as well. I'd gladly sacrifice 30 or so HP for more flexibility, durability and refinement. Other than the engine, improving the suspension tuning for better feedback, ditching the seats for some closer to those like in the EVO X, and a few other relatively minor things would go a long way. I think people would have no problem paying a bit more if they did this. It would defiantly receive better reviews. |

I was wondering how long it would take to see this info on here. I read the same article over at Nasioc 3 days ago. LOL. I figured someone would have posted it before now.
I don't think they need to make the car any smaller. It is already a small car. What they should do is take a good look at the design and shave weight any way they can. They should also continue to refine their 3.7 engine. I really hope they don't go to a smaller engine, its not like the current engine is overly large or anything.

Honestly I'd expect 2.5 to 3.0 maybe boosted if smaller(doubtful) hopefully prices will go down tho |

im wondering if the Z may have peaked for what it is, the whole power to weight ratio thing? i suppose they could tweak this or that, but im biased because i am so satisfied with my 370. like one dude said, this could be the one to keep! of course, the last thing i want the next Z to be is inferior, as i am a huge nissan fan, and i want them to stay on top of the class!
Doesnt the Z34 still have a steel frame? Switching to an aluminum frame (ala Z06 vette) would be a huge weight savings.
and price tag...

TBH, I kinda like having a big V6 in an import, its.... unique haha
yah, we need a silvia to compete with the brz/frs, etc.
My prediction: 3.0l- 3.5l Inline 6 ending the VQ lineup. 3050 lbs, 315hp- 295 ft/lbs of torque with an 8,000 RPM rev limiter. 0-60 in 4.9 and 1/4 mile in 13.1
I also see them bringing back the X suffix to differentiate the years of car. I.E. 350ZX |
What's up with all the people dissing on the 370z? I love my car! Yes the overheating oil thing pisses me off but that's really it. I'll fix that soon. Little bit snappy when you pitch it sideways but that can be fixed too. I'm pretty tall and really appreciate being able to fit into a rear wheel drive sports car. But I fit very nicely in the 240z too.

edit: removed brz/fr-s comment. wrong thread :) |
If they're going to a smaller engine, I vote for a Formula 1 engine. They're only 2.4 liter. :icon18:
Prediction:
3.0 v or inline 6 with turbo option. NA will be 320hp with 290lb tq_ weight 2900lbs_ 0-60 in 5.0 sec 1/4 in 13.4 Turbo = 390hpwith 370lb tq_ weight 3100lbs_ 0-60 in 4.0sec 1/4 in 12.5 Redline 7800 for turbo and 7500NA I'll take the turbo. Thanks:tup: |

AND make the "blindspot windows" actually visible.
doesn't need to be smaller, lighter would be nice though
Smaller Engine means no deal for me. I am happy with my 09.
If the car gets slower, this will be my last Z. In the 6 cars Ive owned in my life, each one has been quicker than the next one... and handled better as well. Must continue the trend unless I need a backseat.
