What other car would you have considered?
Would be interested to know what other car you looked at when making the purchase on the Z..
|
I will save everyone the trouble...Mustang 5.0. Oh wait, you said before purchasing the Z. To answer your question, a GT-R. Then, I realized there is a big difference between being able to purchase one and being able to afford one.
|
Porsche 911 and BMW M3.
|
used 911 or used NSX.
|
Im with the latter, looked at buying a used cayman and a 5.0 but was tired of owning a mustang.
|
96-02 Viper GTS, C6 Z06, looked at a couple Ford Raptors.
|
no other car.. my reason? was cuz i thought my insurance was gonna sky rocket with me and the Z and being 21 years old. but on the contrary they asked if it had a turbo.. i said no, they said "well then its not considered a sports car to us" so my insurance a year for my Z is $877 (after they dropped it 300 bucks)
any other sports car i would be looking at woud have my insurance jacked up regardless... with the Z tho? it was destiny so NO! however i do Admire: The GT-R, NSX, any Ferrari, any Lambo, Porsche, and of course....the Vette. have to include that |
3.8 Gen Coupe, Evo, STI.
|
any model c6. which i will do anyway i'm on my third z.........
will be time for a change late next year............... |
g37,
camaro ( i don't even know why, looking back now lol) |
None
|
The z is amazing and I've never been a mustang fan but the 5.0 is growing on me big time....
|
It was either the Z or the WRX STi. They wouldn't let me test drive the STi, so it was the Z for me lol.
|
S4000
|
none. the Z is something i've always wanted. i didnt wake up one morning and decide to get a new car. i saw the Z for the first time 21 years ago, and have been obsessed with it ever since. increasingly so with every generation Z to emerge.
|
Very briefly considered a genesis coupe 3.8 until I sat in it and walked around it up close at a dealership. I quickly realized the Gen was a settling car for me and I was out to get the car I really loved, not to settle. I briefly thought about a G but realized it didn't wow me either and they're EVERYWHERE in southern California.
|
If I was looking now, I might test drive a 5.0 just to see, but it suffers from being on every corner just like the G so I would still get a Z.
|
mustang gt, camaro ss, genesis coupe, g37/g35, 335i, 350z
basically anything with rwd, 300+ hp, coupe, ~$30k |
To be honest I am always a big fan of BMW's //M badges been looking to get a Z4 M or a 2003 e34 //M. I believe the BMW is a better driver but the Z.... It's just wanna make you say UUU...UuuuMMMM! Sweet!
|
Lexus IS350, but the one I was going to take a good look at was about to be taken on a test-drive by somebody else. Also the fact that the same body style has been out since I believe '06 and they are about due for a redesign. I didn't want to have a brand new old model. And, as Bruce said, I would have settled for that instead of getting something truly unique and less seen on the streets even in SoCal.

O7 dodge viper........used

I almost bought a GTR. Then after looking at it, crunching some numbers and realizing that I would never track that expensive of a car. All I could think of is how big a waste of money it would be for me. Plus, I would scared to death of wrecking it or getting a door ding.
Took a step back and looked at the 370Z at the same time as the GTR and realized I just like the 370Z better as a daily driver. Calculated the insurance gas mileage and price savings and realized I could buy a C6 Grand Sport with the savings in a year or two if I bought a 370Z now. So, I pulled the trigger and realized that it was one of the best decisions of my life. Looking forward to buying that C6 Grand Sport too. Don't get me wrong ... I love the GTR it's just not $70K+ better in my mind than a 370Z. Do you realize a GTR cost almost triple the price of a Z. Yeah, there are a lot of cars out there that can beat the 370Z 0-60, 1/4 mile etc... But, as far as fun factor the 370Z ranks up there with the very best of them. I don't do as many 0-60 dashes on the street as I used to. I have a track car that will blow away my Z so what's the sense? Lastly, I'm partial to the Z because I've owned so many in the past that it was just meant for me to have another as far as I can tell. I love the quality, realiability and performance it gives for the dollars spent. The interior is much nicer than my 350Z. Not that I disliked my 350Z interior; just that the 370Z's interior (once you blackout out the fuel gauge) looks very today. |
The best "toy" of all time is the Daytona Sports Car coupe. Fitted with LS7 engine, they are as quick as a V8SuperCar ....
I'd pull the trigger, but I currently have too many projects on the go .... Details at ... http://www.daytonasportscars.com.au/index.php |
I considered: (in order)
Modded E46 M3 135i / 335i 2008 + STi hatch Briefly looked at the 5.0 and the Camaro SS |
None. The only reason i traded my murano was because i got the itch to get a z.

As far as a GT-R, I think it is a fantastic car and value, but it's just too big for me. One of the things I disliked the most about my G37S was that it was so big. I started driving in the mid 70's in a string of original Civics, a Scirocco, and eventually a couple of Gen I RX-7's. Light and nimble are attractive traits to me. While no light weight by any means (due mainly to safety and creature comforts), the Z is still a pretty nimble car. |
When I bought my Z I was also looking at the Corvette and Cayman S. I briefly looked at the 2010 Mustang but at that time they were still using the 4.6 and hadn't totally worked out their suspensions yet.
It came down to the Cayman S and the Z. I liked the build and handling of the Cayman better, but thought the Z won in looks and value. It was very close in everything else so I felt like it was the best buy and am glad I went with it. |
I've always had wood for Z cars so in reality, none.
The only other car that would interest me is the Cayman (S) (with comparable specs). Though the thought that it's not a real Porsche (not a 911) would bug me. |

Mustang - 1964 1/2 Nissan Z - 1969 Porsche 911 - 1963 (but really, let's start with the 356... ~1948) Corvette - 1953 Honda S roadsters - Starting in 1963 :yum: |
tbh i was looking for a used porsche cayman s before i got the z. they were jsut a couple thousand out of my price range. i dont regret my decision, however i am a little dissapointed knowing that i will NEVER sit in another vehicle that handles as good as a cayman...

The only other car I would add to that list is the 1963 split window Corvette. :yum: it has to be split window, not convertible. |

A nice used Cayman, a used 911 for under 40k always seemed to be either very old or had issues. Other cars were a Dodge Charger STR8 (was just a bit too much) and a Mustang (didn't care for the gauge cluster).

Before getting the Z? Nothing
Z was on my mind all day long. Honestly, if I didn't get the Z and was looking new, I would have gotten a much cheaper car, Subaru Imprezza or an A3 to get around. Now that I've gotten back into a car that performs well, I sometimes get thinking that a used NSX would be cool if I didn't have the Z. |
In this order I guess
2011 Audi A5 2011 Subaru WRX BMW 335i coupe used Cayman S 5.0 mustang Genesis coupe S2000 The Z provided a great blend of all those. |
Started looking (back in 2010 after my last kid was out of college). Given the intent was this was to be my "play" car, I initially was looking at getting a used 370z. Also looked at used Z4s but found them to be uncomfortably small as well as overpriced. Got surprised when my wife suggested we might as well buy a new 370z so found myself with a new 2010 370Z Roadster.
|
I looked at a Camaro and a Challenger prior to purchasing the Z. I haven't looked back on my decision.
