It looks great (matches the interior silver accents in the Z perfectly), improves the shift feel dramatically (because it is heavy, shorter than stock, and fits in the palm perfectly) and the install took about 15 minutes (thanks to all the advice on this forum). I am very satisfied with the result!

Best mod ever for under 60 bucks.
Glad to hear you are happy with it!

There are plenty of "dummy proof" tips, links, and suggestions in this thread. Just read them over and you'll be ok.

You need to pull up on the trim that goes around the shifter. Pull at the back first. Mybe get a towel to place on your console for protection too.

It pops up -- gently slide a flat screwdriver under it and twist. I was nervous too, but no big deal.

No so easy on my car, the Cheesy Harbor Freight strap wrench just keeps slipping. Any other tricks?

The only way you'll break that ring is if you use a hammer to remove it. Just grab the end nearest the rear of the car and gently pull straight up.
