If you don't like the Miata, you can look into the new 350Z race class. That would probably be more fun at a lower price. Or an S2000. Get a bolt on supercharger for it and you're at your power to weight target. There are a lot of other good options.
But buying and then stripping a new 370Z would cost you a lot more money for the same fun factor.
