The looks, the stares, the questions!

I'm sure some of you have experienced the occasional look, stare, or the inevitable ricer fly-by since you've bought your 370z! Whatever your experience may be – whether it is embarrassing, shocking or awe-inspiring, post the stories here. I've done this before on other boards with great success!

Let er' rip!

Well there's plenty of other threads like this, but since this is the latest here's what I've had happen so far:

1. Scared the crap out of myself
2. Had a couple kids walk by it while I was in a taco bell, stop, look, look some more, then take pictures of it.
3. Two kids on bikes as I passed them by said "Hey nice car man!"
4. A car full of hot women pulled up next to me at a stop light and staired at it the whole time. Or where they checking me out? ;-)
5. Gas station attendant asked me about it and said nice ride.
6. Parked at a grocery store, got out and a passing guy in a car asked me all about it while he held up traffic. ;-)
7. And a couple fly-by's by dudes in Hondas.

That's it so far, but I've only had it for a few days... Sure is fun!

ENT-Z 05-27-2009 02:17 PM

First night I got it, I went to target -- parked waaaaayyy out far next to a lightpole. Probably no cars for 30 spots. Come out of target 5 mins later and there is a Ford Expedition parked right next to it. I was like what the hell??? Then I realized he wasn't parked there, but actually still inside the truck just checking it out...as I walked towards it, he pulled out and parked up with the rest of the cars.

iceman21_23 05-27-2009 03:30 PM

i had a local sheriff almost wreck one day when he turned his head to check my car out...

DIGItonium 05-27-2009 04:55 PM

- The first day I drove it home a guy caught up next to me with thumbs up. He tried to ask about my car, but I couldn't answer because the window tint was barely a day new.
- Customer at gas station asked about my car and talked about his old Z days.
- Old Accord with loud exhaust tried to pull up next to me to get my attention. I was approaching an exit and was too busy babying the car to look over.
- At my cousin's graduation party, a bunch of his friends gawked at my car. One was a bit of a hater and kept talking down about it and says it looks like his car. I later found out he drove a Civic sedan. O_o

Overall, nothing exciting compared to my 350Z. Even years later I'd get people who hold up their cameraphones as they make a left turn, kids walking by with their cameraphones, family posing and snapping photos, etc. My car, in the avatar, turned lots of heads with barely any mods to it. The wheels definitely turned lots of heads.

CBRich 05-27-2009 05:34 PM

Definitely saw a guy mouth, "Oh, sh**" the other day.

imag 05-27-2009 09:24 PM

Not much excitement here. I feel like people in the Bay Area think they're too cool to be excited about cars. I had an '81 'vette that looked pretty decent in black and people around here almost made an effort not to look at it. Go 50 miles out, though, and people are much friendlier about the rides...

fly yellow 05-28-2009 12:20 AM

I get a lot of nice car compliments. The main people I see gawking are people in 350's, but I check their cars out too.

shesha 05-28-2009 03:15 PM

In LA, after one month I got one "Nice Z" from a motorcycle guy.

Maybe 1-2 hard looks from people in other cars.

1- Oh **** look.

Other than that, when you share the streets with Lambos, and GT3 porsches
I guess no one really cares here.

I got more looks with my G35 when I first got it.

Oh well, When I drive I am happy. so I guess thats all that counts. I stopped looking to see whos looking at me and m,y new car last week. Now I just drive.

I'm in L.A. too, I've gotten more looks than that, but I agree that you don't get quite as much here in the land of "you are what you drive."

There are definitely people who look, even if they don't say anything. I also have Monterrey Blue, so that could be drawing extra attention.

AARC51 05-28-2009 04:12 PM

Every time I pass some brain dead driver in a Mustang GT going less than the speed limit they suddenly accelerate to try and stop me... It never works.

Yeah I have Silver, so it kind of flies under the radar!
I guess I should have thought about Yellow, but my girl said she wouldn't get in the car with me if it were Yellow:tup:

semtex 05-28-2009 05:13 PM

I've gotten some looks/stares from drivers in oncoming traffic. And those are scary, because a couple of times they've started to drift across the line over into my lane and nearly caused us to collide head on. One guy was actually pointing at my car and saying something to his passenger, then suddenly his car was aimed right at me. I had to swerve to avoid him, and caught a glimpse of his passenger with a look of utter terror on his face.

Hummm...Best color available I'm afraid. She's missing out. :stirthepot:

Diversion 05-28-2009 07:51 PM

Brilliant Silver here..

Let's see, went to a movie with my gf... came out and walking back to the car we see an older guy standing next to the Z staring at it.. He asks a lot of questions and called it a "beautiful car".. I'm down with that ;)

Went to Barnes and Noble (bookstore) and same thing, we're walking back to the car and an older guy standing behind it staring it down.. He talks about the 280Z he used to own back in the day.. very nice guy.. then points over to his C4 vette and says after seeing the new Z, that he's got to go test drive one.

Plenty of people breaking necks on the street looking at the car while driving around.. I've never had this much attention in a car i've ever owned.. the WRX never got any looks as people thought it was just a regular 4 door sedan.

And when I pump gas the other people nearby pumping gas **** their heads looking at it as well. Lol.

m4a1mustang 05-28-2009 08:54 PM

I get looks every day.

Have had people ask me questions at stop lights, a lot of "nice car, sir!" comments from young kids, etc.

One of the most fun was at a light with an orange Murcielago and gray V12 Vantage... both of them were checking the Z out as I was drooling over theirs!!! :icon18:

canepas2002 05-28-2009 09:58 PM

I keep getting tried by cars way out of my league. i.e- Aston Martins, vettes, Porches (not Catmans or boxsters) Carreras, 911's. WTF!!!!

canepas2002 05-28-2009 09:59 PM

sorry caymans. Mispelled

ejrives 05-28-2009 11:14 PM

1. Fellow Z driver gave me the metal horns.
2. GT-R flyby on interstate
3. Middle age woman at stoplight : " Yo go boy!"
4. Little kid : " Whoa! look at that car"
5. Countless stares, questions and waves

The coolest thing I think is all of the fellow Z owners and the "wave" of mutual agreement as we meet each other on the roads.

Canadian370Z 05-29-2009 10:01 AM

I have gotten the same stares and waves but this morning I was driving through a construction zone when the guy holding up the slow/stop sign saw my car approaching so he waited till everyone else passed and threw up the stop just so he could come and ask me about the car. We ended up holding up traffic and he had to let me go but that was the craziest one so far.

82theZ 05-29-2009 05:14 PM

- There have definitely been a number of stares.
- Had two different guys pull up next to me in their cars and compliment the ride
- walked out of best buy and found two guys admiring the car and asked me a few questions when I walked up. I couldn't help but have a big cheesy smile on my face when they asked if the car was mine.

Junior370z 05-29-2009 07:06 PM

Here in San Diego there's a lot of ricers. They like to drive next to me and check out my car. Most of the time I think they're scared to go up againts it LOL!

- gas station attendant say "Beautiful car"!
- random people always checking out the Z
- mustang drivers for some reason stare a lot.

Haven't really seen another 370 except for nizz's car (the silver one all stripped)

One_Quick_Z 05-29-2009 08:10 PM

I just pulled out of the parking lot at the dealership and only went a block and had some guy yell at me and ask me what kind of car it was and gave a thumbs up

DAN

ChrisSlicks 05-29-2009 09:31 PM

Don't even have to leave the dealership. I was getting props from the guys in service before I even left the lot, even today when I went back for my free oil change.

Attaboy 05-29-2009 10:03 PM

got all the usual look on the road and at lights.. the best one so far was this kid and his mom.. the kid must have been 7 or 8 years old. i was parking at the store as they were leaving and the kid saw the car right away and started telling his mom that this was a 370 and NOT a 350 and rattled off the specs of the car and how it's "soooo cooooool!!". she ended up having to yank him by the arm and get him in their car.

guessing he will be a future Z owner

Super Walmart Parking Lot

1 Attachment(s)
This one was kind of funny so I snapped a quick pic. I parked on the far outskirts of the local Walmart parking lot and when I came back out I realized my Z had company...

NeedforZ 05-30-2009 12:20 PM

Drove the 370z to the Honda dealership to pick up my wife. The Accord needed an oil change and O2 sensor. Went inside and when I came back out there were several Honda techs and mechanics checking it out. Told'em I wasn't there for a trade in. :icon17: And Honda really needs to get busy on the next S2000.

k20z3 05-30-2009 12:53 PM

Thats so cool!

ZYUL8R 05-30-2009 03:10 PM

I had the usual OMGs, and jaw drops....but the funniest one...someone asked "Oh man is that the new ferrari california?!" lol...i told him it was a nissan he said "who cares that car is awesome"

Diversion 05-30-2009 03:28 PM

Got a few people thinking it was a Porsche a few times already.

theDreamer 05-30-2009 03:47 PM

Had a few people at the wedding rehearsal I was at today ask how I liked the 350z...I said not sure, since I do not own one. It got the conversation started about the changes and differences and such. Though I feel bad for one guy, I let his girlfriend sit in the driver seat and she gets out and looks at him and says, "When my birthday comes around I want this."

FricFrac 06-22-2009 01:46 AM

Every time I park downtown and I'm standing talking to someone beside the car people walk around the car taking pictures babling madly pointing and staring. Its so crazy. There are so many other cars that are twice or three times the price of my car parked on the same street and people don't even see them.

Tonight I parked behind a 350Z and got out to talk to the guy. These tourists come by pointing at my car walk 100 feet past it then come back the other way pointing then they rush in to take pictures. Here the 350Z is parked right in front of me and they don't even notice it. They are so close to each other in design and function and yet people don't even see the older brother.... its very strange.

Mergnthwirker 06-22-2009 07:05 AM

Here on the Gold Coast of Connecticut, folks are fairly blase about cars. Most people don't seem to notice much -- might be different if I'd gotten a yellow one!

Had one guy yesterday who was in a cherry-looking 350Z who wanted to know how I liked it. He knew all about it, and was impressed by the upgraded quality of the interior. He was really into Z's, on his 3rd or 4th, and was hoping I could compare, but this is my first one. Got a big "thumbs up" from him!

How to offend lesbians with your Z

So I returned to my car yesterday at the grocery store, and this couple pulled into the adjacent spot, staring drop-jawed at my car. I'm pretty sure they were lesbians because (a) they were both women, and (b) their car was plastered with a whole bunch of gay-pride and women's rights type stickers. Now, I'm not normally one to deliberately offend someone admiring the Z, nor do I have anything against gays and lesbians, but I just couldn't resist, given their apparent need to broadcast their politics in everyone's faces. When they asked me what the name of my car's color is, I told them, with a completely straight face, that it's called 'Burka Blue'. You should have seen the horrified looks on their faces. It totally made my day.

:happydance:

I met my GF for lunch and we went to Quiznos and When I was saying goodbye to here after lunch... I hear..... Hoooo maaannn sweet and she says "that guys is checking out your car" so I looked over and there was a middle aged guy drooling over the car so I start walking over and he give me a weird look and says "is this your car?" I replied "Yup" Then he follows with "Ill trade you straight up for my cobalt" as his wife is getting out of the car.... I laughed and said "no I like it to much" and smiled
