Turbo Z owners: what is your income?

I am curious about how much disposable income turbo or supercharged Z owners have.

I hope people aren't hesitant to post this since it's only an Internet forum... I will start just to be fair..

I am fresh out of college making a bit over 50k and I definitely CANNOT afford FI right now... Maybe one day.

Seriously it is...

Strangler 01-30-2012 10:59 PM

Over 9000 and that's not nearly enough for turbo

Kingbaby 01-30-2012 11:10 PM

Too many ballets on this site to give you a straight answer! 50k a year is better than most! Some charge a whole build on credit! I don't advise you do that! What type of power are you trying to make? Why do you feel a certain salary allows you to go FI? If you earn 50k and take home damn near all of it you too can go FI...if not a smal personal loan can get you FI as well! I don't avise that either unless your above water on the car!

Other than that, just enjoy your car!

UNKNOWN_370 01-31-2012 12:35 AM

I'm not one for posting my income here. But with wise decision making and saving. I will have a turbo in due time, 2 years or less.

kenchan 01-31-2012 07:03 AM

My digital pianos cost more than your turbo kits. :D

2011 Nismo#91 01-31-2012 07:06 AM

I don't dispose of any of my income, I use all of it so. $0 here.

This. :iagree:

All my disposable income goes to pension/IRA/401k. Anything left over will go to the car. I have it lucky though since I was able to pay off the Z in 11 months and currently debt free again.

edub370 01-31-2012 07:57 AM

agreed. i am fresh outta college too. make less than that, but about 10% of my income goes to 401k and stocks from my company. sucks not have money to play race cars all the time, but i think i will thank myself when i retire and go buy a house on the beach somewhere

Red__Zed 01-31-2012 08:14 AM

This should be interesting

DIGItonium 01-31-2012 09:02 AM

I'm not wealthy either, but I started saving money after getting a job out of college. As foolish as it sounds, I shuffled some savings to build up the Z (see sig). The goal is to get it out of the way quickly so I can start building the house (currently being built). After getting the house, I don't plan on doing much to this car other than kicking up the boost and pray the engine doesn't pop down the road.

I'm pretty much done with the most expensive aspects of this hobby and hope to enjoy it for years to come. The next car will be a cheap daily driver and grocery getter. If I ever parted ways with the Z and wanted to get another sports car it would be something force fed from the factory like the GT-R, but I still prefer a force fed manual.

6MT 01-31-2012 09:03 AM

It is a bit of a silly question.

I don't know...I see a lot of people on this forum doing a ton of modifications to the Z. I always wonder how much those folks make.

m4a1mustang 01-31-2012 09:12 AM

There's a poll somewhere on the forum for income.

At your stage of life, I made $50k in the late 1980's, and noway was I going to spend my money on a new car. I waited six more years. I did an auto cross suspension on my, older, paid off, 280Z.

Assuming your student loans are paid, saving $1,000 per month will finish your project in about a year. 2 years at $500/mo. Can you be patient until then?

Good luck.

kenchan 01-31-2012 11:05 AM

honestly i cant see myself buying a nismo with only $50K income. that's just too much car and not enough left for house and other investments/savings. :) but that's just me.

in comparision, when i was making only $50K i drove around a civic-ex coupe i bought used and saved my money.

Huck 01-31-2012 11:18 AM

I'm one of those stupid people that had a scholarship for college and decided not to go, worst mistake of my life. Between my wife and I, we make about $50,000 a year, but a lot of that goes to our mortgage since we bought at the height of the market. Once I get out of school and she's been with her airline a bit longer, it should be close to double that.

Many circumstances play into what your "disposable income" is on top of just salary. Where you live (cost of living), family situation, etc all play into how much $$ is left over at the end of the day for boost.

Notsud 13 01-31-2012 12:21 PM

i make 60k/year without any college loans to pay for. I drove around in a 95 and 97 toyota 4runner for 2 years and saved my money to buy a house. Bought my house, rented out 2 rooms, then saved another 5k to put a down payment on my Z.

cossie1600 01-31-2012 12:27 PM

I make a few times more, yet I have no money to spend on cars. Stupid mortgage

Right now, I would pile that into a HOUSE. That's what I'm doing, anyway.

Yes, but the average Z06 owner makes $140K a year according to GM's market research.

I come NOWHERE NEAR that, and yet I have one, and plenty of money left over to do whatever with (like build suppressed Noveske AR's, etc.).

It's not about income. It's about bills and debt, cost of living and rent/house.

More importantly...it's about priorities.

theDreamer 01-31-2012 12:39 PM

Income is only a small portion of what will determine peoples 'disposable income.'
For me, I am single living in a cheaper rent place (courtesy of my father who owns the property) and very few other bills. Also, I live in Texas which has some better tax laws and many cheaper commodities than many states.

sorry to dirty up your $500K income driving the same car as you.... :ugh2: :icon17:

BigT 01-31-2012 01:52 PM

I bought my Z to get out of the car/tuning/modding game. Its a lot cheaper than owning an Evo and modding it.

This commercial is even more true than when it aired in a strong economy. And I felt sorry for the poor SOB then.

I own it or I do not have it. (Mortgage excluded although mine is paid off).
