I was fortunate enough to finish school with no debt thanks to my parents' hardwork, fortunate enough to get into a very lucrative, rewarding & soughtafter career, fortunate enough to get one of the best money advice from a relative when I first started working and most importantly fortunate and blessed to have a spouse with the same money values and goals (more important than many my age tend to realize). I max out 401k/IRAs/Mutual Funds/Online Brokerage contributions. My spouse and I live comfortably on a 1/3 of my salary, living under our means, exploring the beauty of the world as we please and socking away/investing the remainder of my salary and hers. Mortgage can be paid off right now but still enjoying Uncle Sam's deductions until they get taken away. Currently working hard at saving up for up to 50% downpayment for our next house to be built hopefully 4 years from now...GOD willing. Still one is an accident away, a disease away let it be oneself or loved one, a new job-taking cutting edge technology from losing a very comfortable middle-class lifestyle; as such we do our very best to always plan for the worst and hope for the best. GOD BLESS AMERICA, many of us don't realize how good we have it here. |
I get paid in Trident Layers.

That being said there is a guy I work with that has been with the company for 2 years and makes as much as I do (while all the other guys that hired on around the same time have gone on to promotions and pay raises) and I could tell he felt uncomfortable when I mentioned how much I made. But hey, he asked. |
I try not to discuss salary with other people (outside of the forums) only because there are a lot of haters out there. People who do not want to see you do well and then those that are just jelous. They might not reach into your wallet to steal or ask for money, but they sure as hell will run their key across the side of your car. My answer usually is, "not enough".
Then again, I live in NJ. This state is full of haters. It might be different elsewhere. |

The income issue, like has been mentioned a few times here is very subjective. It doesn't have as much relevance as one might think. Some people save and others spend. Lifestyle preferences are all different as well as the cost of living for the area people live in. Someone in rural Arkansas may have an income the same as someone living in SoCal, yet have much more disposable income. As for an anonymous way of getting this worthless question asked and answered, may have been with a $50k increment poll.

Where you live is also your choice. No need to cry about standard of living.

I'll discuss salaries with really close friends but even rarely then. Never discuss salary with coworkers though there is nothing good that can come from those kinds of conversations only points of contention. The general rule of thumb is, if you're finding yourself questioning what someone makes, you're probably not going to like the answer and you're better off not knowing.

Not much disposable income. I am 26. I pulled in 83k last year and with this year (my lowest raise yet) I should be at around 90k (before taxes of course). If I stay with the company I work with now I hope that by the start of 2014 I will be setup to make >100k by that time. That being said I bought a house a few months before the Z in 2010. My Mortgage/insurance/property tax (that I Have all in one payment) run me around $1850/month. With my $215 internet bill and all my utilities, food, and other crap I don't really have a ton of 'disposable' income.
Also I am into computers/media so a lot of my disposable income goes into storage more storage and stuff (have a full rack of computer equipment and >150TB of disks). Why more power would be nice I feel the Z has plenty of power to me and I think I get more use out of the computer stuff I use a lot of my disposable income on instead. Also just maintenance add's up on the Z as well because I drive so much. I have had it for 18 months and just have over 33k miles on it. That also runs me about $250-275 in gas per month and $2000/yr on tires, maintenance and other stuff (since I like to go to the dealer as I Have been bit by a warranty in the past). I really love my Z and plan to keep it long after its paid off. Due to this I really don't want to do something which would lower its longivity for the power I don't *really* need. |
