Why is this happening so much? (people selling their Zs)

I've been noticing that a lot of Z's are being sold right now. Why are so many people dumping their cars?

My guess is that 2-seaters are less practical overall. Especially in practice...

when you say "a lot" of Z's what do you mean? I'm always trolling Autotrader and Ebay and haven't seen very much of an increase in Z's listed on the internet. I've been watching Z's for about 2 years. I guess the older they get the more and more used ones will be out there.

I dont think there is a specific reason why this model vehicle would return to the used market any sooner than most other vehicles.

it might seem alot, but it actually isnt. hard to find many used 370z

it's cheaper to buy a new car vs a new steering lock.

Some of the cars are 3 years old now, it's about time people start trading them in newer things.

Also, I've noticed a lot of the comments in the for sale threads point out that they are correcting financial mistakes they made. So it looks like many people bought more car than they could afford, maybe thinking they would eventually get a raise, promotion, or better job, and are correcting that miscalculation.

UNKNOWN_370 01-28-2012 02:23 PM

Yeah... when the Z gencoupe and camaro came out. People were going nuts doing anything to get in them. Now they are driving used hyundai's to recoupe from "I gotta have it first syndrome".

RandyD 01-28-2012 02:31 PM

i think it's normal stuff:

some people bought too much car.
economy is in the toilet.
car is now 3 years old. Some people like brand new always.

i originally thought i would keep my vert as a classic for many many years... still a good plan, UNLESS the dealer will even swap me for a 2012 with the oil cooler...

1- They might 2009 models that are running out of warranty or will be soon.

2- Most people are not really Z enthusiastic.

3- Some people like a new car every 3 yrs

4- Some people buy out of impulse then they realize that is not what they wanted.

Not again! :shakes head:

Well, I can seriously say that I am not a Z "enthusiast". But, I love this car. I enjoy driving it. It will be around for a while. It might not be my daily driver after 2 or 3 years, but I don't see it going anywhere.

Another reason it may seem this way to you is, you are on an enthusiast forum, yes a 370Z one, but an auto enthusiast forum nonetheless. The type of people that visit these forums are more likely to want to upgrade, start a new project, or just get a shiny new toy than people that just bought the Z, kept it stock and don't really think about mods or visit the forums.

I think you could reasonably conclude that the ratio of Z owners on the forum trading/selling their Z's for something else is higher than that of the Z owners that are not enthusiasts or active on the forum.

Finally, as an active member yourself, you are going to notice all the posts about people who are selling/trading (other active members who are excited to talk about their new purchase or attempt to part out/sell their car here). Probably the same type of thing happening on most other forums for different car makes/models. I would be very surprised if this were a 370Z only thing.
