I read this as "Miata Nissan" and wondered, "how was he able to get through the front door?" :rofl2:

I just wrote a complaint to Nissan of North America last night.

This is what they responded:

Thank you for contacting Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to assist you.

A review of our records indicates that the above-referenced vehicle is not currently involved in any recalls or service campaigns.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Nissan North America, Inc. and allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.

So the dealer called and it is the steering lock that failed. The part is on 3 week plus backorder so they are going to pull one from a 2012 they have on the lot and use it to fix mine. I am picking it up tonight. I tell you what -- these guys are awesome and they will definitely be on my Christmas card list for 2012!!!

Thank you again everyone for all the support. You are my best friends and we have not even met yet.

I am getting the rev numbers from the old and new part for those of you interested.

Have a great day!!!!

MrOnzedge, Good to hear that. I believe you will have a GREAT weekend!!!

Bad news. Apparently the 2012 models do not have a steering lock any more so there is no way to swap out the mechanism. Figures. So, the dealer jerry-rigged a module from an Altima so the car is driveable at least and I can bring it home to wait for the part. February 10 is the estimated delivery of the part. Nice.

Interesting that the 2012s don't have the lock. At least they have a temporary fix for you. It would suck to have the Z out of commission for a few weeks because of this.

djpathfinder 01-20-2012 03:51 PM

Well, at least you're not without your car for the next 3 weeks. Good that the problem wasn't something else.

haggomyeggo 01-20-2012 03:52 PM

I was told those things go out on the altimas more than on ours. Oh and mine said national back order with no time frame. 2 weeks possibly but a dealer from this website got it for me in two days...
If he wants the shout out I will

mr.onzedge- good to hear you can at least get you car back.

but hummm... im quite surprised to hear the 2012's dont use steering locks... do they have other security measures?

i'd be VERY INTERESTED to see what the underside of the 12's steering column looks like. i should go visit my dealer sometime this Spring to take hentai (up steering column) shots with my droid. :ugh2:

hope the dealer lets you see the bad steering lock so we can get the Rev number....

I was going to make a joke about you having to go inside the car to look and relating it to 中出し, but you are too classy of a gentleman for that kind of juvenile, adolescent, potty humor
