Yes, but I got a canned response from the Representtive of Nissan of North America Customer Service for the complaint I wrote them concerning this issue.

She told me that my complaint was going to be logged and that they have not received enough complaints to act and make a recall or TSB on the issue.

Again her name is Rebecca Martin and her telephone for those of you that have gone or going thru this issue. Telephone is 1-615-725-1000.
I had my issues in the past with her since most of the time she is clueless about an issue.

However we need to keep pounding them, here is the email again: Nissan North Amerca customer service:
customersupport@nissan-usa.com

ZCarMan 01-25-2012 04:36 PM

Here is the reply I received from Nissan North America:

I already sent back a reply asking exactly what creating a file does that would set my mind at ease? Hey, at least I didn't get a form letter!

I worried. :(

Every time I climb in and push the button, I'm flooded with relief when the lock clicks, the wheel is released and the Z roars to life, taking me on to my destination once again!

Leaving the gym at 6 this morning. Went to the car and nothing. Got a ride home to get my old Frontier and heading back to call AAA to get towed to the dealer. I am so excited. But now I get a day off of work so its not all bad I guess.

Woo, please check Rev number on your steering lock. Also, mark it with a scratch or pen to ensure dealer swaps. GL! Please update thechids thread for logging purpose.

This is getting ridiculous. Does anyone have a feel for the total number of us are affected?

Class action lawsuit is not a bad idea. My friend was saying his 135i, because those cars have so many problems, they did a class action lawsuit and so BMW had to extend warranty on the turbos and fuel pumps to 100K miles. If Nissan doesn't do a recall, it wouldn't be a bad idea if we go this route too...

Back from the dealer. I never even thought about marking the lock or looking at the rev. Since it died in a parking lot I didnt have tools. Had it just not started at home I would have drove my truck and played with this a bit more later. Oh well. I will update the other thread and I will post updates. I am also having them look at the hatch problem since they have the car. That has been going on for a while and I really didnt care but since it is there...why not.

If I may ask what is your build date. Mine is July or August 2010. I hope I am free from this but who knows. You have a 2010 so I have to ask. Thanks if you reply.

I never got the build date for it. I bought it Memorial Day weekend of 2010 so it should be before yours.

Just trying to figure out a rough percentage of failure... at least out of those who have posted here. Of course we'll never know the true numbers, but this gives us an idea.

Don't think a recall or small class action would be valid or even justifiable. I went to Search for a Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

and took at number of complaints for 2009 / 2010/ 2011 370z for this particular steering lock issue and there are only '3' complaints.

From what I have read, large number of complaints to NHTSA could initiate some action, but not w/ only 3 complaints formally issued.

:shakes head:

That means that people with this issue need to make a complaint to NHTSA to get the ball rolling!!!!!!!!!!!

onzedge 02-02-2012 09:58 AM

I got a call this morning from my Nissan dealer telling me the part has arrived. I am waiting until Monday to take her in for the repair because Mondays are when the paintless dent guy is in and I am getting that annoying little dimple in my roof removed at the same time.

They also confirmed that the mechanism is Rev D.

They are one week ahead of schedule also.

kenchan 02-02-2012 10:22 AM

Woot! GL with the repairs. :D

Hrm, I'm wondering if I should remove all my bolt ons and get this taken care of. I figure best to take it in at stock then have the dealership have my mod's on record to throw in my face in case I need to take it back in later on for some warranty work. Any advice guys?

My Z is modified and they give me no grief about it.
