MrZ mentioned that Courtesy lists this part as well, which would be a better alternative, considering that they are a vendor here!

One question, does this problem effect all 370's or is it just the '09's and '10's?

Seems like it's the '09 and early '10s with the Rev A or Rev B steering lock mechanisms as kenchan referenced in his DIY thread. The owner of my old '09 actually had the steering lock fail on him at 42,000 miles.

Yep Steve indirectly sold me a defective car....I will get my payback at ZdayZ.....Assume the position Steve

In all seriousness it sucked the 850 repair bill but with the technology our cars you should kinda know it's possible.

I got in my car this afternoon to go to a client site and NOTHING happened when I pushed the start button. I strongly suspect the steering lock mechanism is the culprit as it has all of the symptoms other members have elaborated upon. I had a key light glowing bright, mocking me as I cursed the gods and called for a tow.

Your Z isn't broken... he just. Wanted to be taken for a ride for a change... :) jk. Dude hope that gets taken care of asap.

Update!!!

So the dealer called and it is the steering lock that failed. The part is on 3 week plus backorder so they are going to pull one from a 2012 they have on the lot and use it to fix mine. I am picking it up tonight. I tell you what -- these guys are awesome and they will definitely be on my Christmas card list for 2012!!!

Thank you again everyone for all the support. You are my best friends and we have not even met yet.

I am getting the rev numbers from the old and new part for those of you interested.

Have a great day!!!!

 Good to hear that you'll have the car back today. That's pretty nice that the dealer is going to pull the part from one of the Zs on their lot.

onzedge 01-20-2012 03:34 PM

Bad news. Apparently the 2012 models do not have a steering lock any more so there is no way to swap out the mechanism. Figures. So, the dealer jerry-rigged a module from an Altima so the car is driveable at least and I can bring it home to wait for the part. February 10 is the estimated delivery of the part. Nice.
