by the way, as you probably know if you start welding more weight on the front to hold down the scooter, you're going to need to shift other weight to the back... otherwise you'll end up with too much load on the hitch

Indeed, tongue weight and ground clearance is the only thing I see that can possibly go wrong, with the abuse I've seen people do to the Z while NOT towing anything, towing a tiny trailer with track tires and tools or a small scooter should be no problem.
