The Z is a sexy car for sure but if I had to do it again, I would have bought a 2011 STI first or maybe a 5.0 just on the ease of modding it.

The 5.0 performance is nice, but its still a Mustang and I see more and more old ladies driving them each day. The Z06 is a sweet car and I'd love to get one. They are just as useless as the 370Z because they're both 2 seats with a useless trunk. "Its a flying gas can with 2 chairs" as my buddy calls my Z. I got a chance to drive my buddies 2007 Z06 two weeks ago and it's so much smoother than the Z and I don't mind the interior. For me the difference between getting a used Z06 vs a new 370Z is just the matter of flipping a coin. I'd be just as happy either way.

I dont understand what people mean when they say this?! Its just a mustang, why the negative connotation? Isnt a Z just a Z? These two cars have been head to head in price and performance for longest time until recent...i dont undertand what makes people think thier 30k car sets them apart from another 30k car. When i had my 370Z i loved it, same with all my 350's...when i saw a mustang...i would ONLY care if it was a GT and always saw it as formidable comp.

In my opinion... Tier 6: Kia/Hyundai/Suzuki Tier 5: Ford/Nissan/GM/Chrysler/Honda/Toyota Tier 4: Lexus/Acura/Infiniti Tier 3: BMW/Mercedes/Porsche/Audi/VW/Maserati/ Tier 2: Ferrari/Lamborghini/Aston Martin/Bently/Maybach Tier 1: Rolls Royce/Bugatti/1-off type cars of uber-low production hand-made Anyone in one tier above someone else who wants to talk smack about brand is just being an idiot imo. as many of the brands have vehicles that are worthy of a Tier higher or lower than the one the majority of their vehicles occupy. Once you move 2 tier levels, then you start to see some real gaps. At 3 tier levels, it's probably a different world, no-matter how loudly Hyundai wants to say that their paint is better than Mercedes. |

Some sort of safety feature.
The seats are solid and hold up. Everything on the Z is solid and holds up. Just keep an eye on oil consumption when new, add oil if needed, and you are gtg.

I really like the 370Z, it has a much more up-scale interior/look than my Z06 does on the inside. Outside the Z06 is sexier because it's lower, but I like the curvature of the 370Z better. I guess my question with the 370Z is...is it like a knight in tin-foil, or is it as quality as it feels on first touch--through and through--. To me, it felt maybe 9.5 out of 10 as quality as a Cayman S except for the paint. (I did not drive the Cayman, just felt/sat/looked). I am just worried that at $40K, the car has an interior that looks $60K, and I hope that it doesn't fall apart like a $20K interior with extra money spent trying to put lipstick on a pig is all, if any of that makes sense? |

-ergonomics (for example, resting your arm on the left armrest does not put your hand in a great position to hold the wheel, for long drives - I drove an M3 and have to say it was PERFECT on this aspect) -clutch smoothness (or lack thereof) -clutch chatter -knotchy shifter -engine harshness above 5-6k -incompetent traction control system -can't open hatch from inside -big blind spots (you get used to this quickly though, with proper side-mirror alignment) -apparently, short people can't see over the big side mirrors On balance, I think these issues are minor for what you are getting. And for people who use their Z as a weekend car, most of these are probably not an issue whatsoever. But when you DD a car, you will always catch on to its imperfections. |

IC,
I see you're alot closer to this move than I thought based on some of your earlier posts on this topic. Some thoughts: 1. I agree 100% with you that everyone who loves cars should, at some point in their lives, own a supercar or car w/supercar performance, it's totally worth it. 2. House > car all day long if you plan ot be in an area long term. I think you've posted before that you'll be looking to purchase property/house once you move. 3. The 370z will, if you're looking for a 2 seater sports car, do everything just good enough to keep you happy, while it's no 505bhp rocket, it's plenty fast and enjoyable on the street. I can totally empathize with having a car you can't open up at all legally except for the track. 4. Trans issues seem to be less frequent in 2010+ Z models. I have a '10 and have no problems, even after 4 track days and almost 14K miles. 5. Good luck with your decision/purchase. |

I'll add two more complaints to your list: - Power sockets. One hidden where passengers will inevitably damage it with their feet (or anything plugged into it) and the other hidden inside the center console? They should've killed the one under the glove box, and replaced it with one in the center stack near the ac/radio area. That or just dropped it and put a couple of USB power-outs there. - Dangerously Addictive. I swear this Z is like crack. It's just too much fun to drive and too easy to mod. Look me up in 5 years and you'll find me selling body parts to keep up my Z addiction. I can hear it now: "I'll give you a kidney for a set of brake pads and a track day fee". |
