Note to stupid driver - please check before changing lanes!

Sad to report in about my first ever accident (I'm 28). :shakes head:

On interstate, two lanes, speed limit 65, I am driving about 55 in the right lane. Left lane has build up and the driver of a white Toyota Highlander decides to change lanes to my lane(right lane) before I could swerve out of her way and she clipped my left rear fender and wheel. Also know that the only damage to her car was some paint damage. She had similar marks on every corner of her Toyota! :shakes head:

The wide end of the Z saved me here from a complete spin out. VDC light kicked on as well. Look below for pics of damage. Keep in mind I am very OCD about my car so if there is just one scratch on her then that is ONE TOO MANY!

However, thanks be to GOD that everyone is safe!

Also, RavSpec, I am gonna need some information about getting a new wheel....Volk GT-S 19x10.5+18.

ouch, brutal man.

was it properly noted as her fault? usually they will try to pin it on you since it was your blind spot that was impacted.

hoping for a speedy recovery for the car!

Cafiax 10-16-2011 02:43 PM

:/ this just makes me sad. Sorry to hear that you drew the short straw and was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

mjg 10-16-2011 02:45 PM

That sucks bro... I hate crappy drivers, at least you're safe, and the car can be fixed. I had a lot of crap recently happen to my Z as well, and I do know you're pain. Hopefully it will it will be fixed, and back to you in no time.

Yes, I called the police out to the scene and they did a full report where she admitted to not paying attention and not seeing me!

kenchan 10-16-2011 02:51 PM

Oh no~! :( sucks. Sorry to see this. GL with the repairs.

GaleForce 10-16-2011 02:51 PM

Glad to hear everyone is ok. I hope her insurance will take care of getting your car back to 110%.

Do you have some before shots? I would love to see your car with those rims in its glory!

Exactly, I am calling my insurance (USAA) first thing in the morning to get the ball rolling.

TreeSemdyZee 10-16-2011 03:10 PM

With the numbers of people yacking on their cellphones anymore, this is my biggest paranoia when driving.
Sorry your car is so bunged up, but glad you're ok.

2004YZFR1 10-16-2011 04:38 PM

Sorry to hear about that. You car was looking really nice before. Hopefully it won't take to long to get her back.

Thanks. I think getting my hands on the new Volk wheel might take the longest...I sure hope not!

I also am going to take this opportunity to get the door handles painted to match.

DIGItonium 10-16-2011 05:01 PM

Man that'll run anyone's day especially with your new wheels! Glad everyone's made it out fine.

dennis26 10-16-2011 05:02 PM

Sorry to hear about it. Glad you are not hurt. It's great that she took responsibilty for the accident.

poorazn 10-16-2011 05:05 PM

Wait what??? How the heck did she hit you all the way up the side like that??? She turn lanes into your driverside door essentially! You werent even RIGHT next to her and she didn't see to her side. You were IN front of her and to the side, and she didnt see you..........

Yea I know right?! I can almost bet that she was on her cell phone. But like I said all four corners of her Toyota have marks on them from her hitting something! I still can't believe this happened.

RavSpec 10-16-2011 05:58 PM

That sucks :(

HOW IS IT I KNEW BEFORE I EVEN OPENED THIS THREAD THAT IT HAPPENED IN TEXAS!

Home of the WORLDS F***IN, MOST D***EST-S*****EST, ID***IC, drivers in the nation. If you are a car in TEXAS. Stay away from driving next to any SUV driver. If you don't live in tx. be careful driving in to tx major cities. New Yorkers are rude drivers. But here you get rude with the added bonus of all above mentioned.
Top 5 things to know about driving in texas.

5. The passing lane is on the right. The slow lane is on the left.
4.there are only two speeds texans drive on the highway. 40 in a 70 or 105 in a 50.
3. There's no such thing as turn signals in tx. Maybe its too difficult for simple minds to use????
2. Tailgating is the Statewide pastime.
1. SUV'S AND PICKUP drivers do whatever they please without an inkling of courtesy.

And if you notice? Every texas SUV driver is in the same dumb seating position and for some reason they are forever holding a phone??? Its so stupid how everyone has a smart phone here. Everybody wants the car of the year that's fully loaded with bluetooth. But no one uses there hands free. WTFF???.
Every couple of months you here on the news that someone was murdered while driving. They just drive up next to a driver and open fire. I'm pretty sure my top 5 is the reason why.

PS. WHO THE f*** HITS A RED SPORTS CAR??????????????????? She really didn't see you???

ONLY IN TX. I hope she comes on the forum.

Thanks for helping me laugh for the first time of the day. And I have only been here for 3 weeks and everything that you said about TX drivers is 100% true! I couldn't have said it better my friend! :tiphat:

RavSpec 10-16-2011 08:34 PM

 I'm glad I can make you laugh. I feel your pain. I had an accident with a tx driver doing double the speed limit and texting. I'm on my second Z because of it. Over 20 years of driving in nyc craziness and I have an accident in a tx suburb????

If you don't try to laugh you'll go crazy!

ScGRaceR 10-16-2011 11:19 PM

damn sorry dude

Skeeterbop 10-16-2011 11:24 PM

I was with a friend in san antonio when I we watched some lady run over the front of a parked Mercedes with her extended cab truck. Ripped the front off the Mercedes and blew out her rear tire.

Rooster89 10-17-2011 12:18 AM

I am from chicagoland, drove in NY/cleveland for the past four years, and plan on moving to TX in another four. Now I am scared to.

haitech 10-17-2011 02:23 AM

haha it's a game, but you have to know the five essential d's:

dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!

Rooster89 10-17-2011 02:32 AM

Driving the kennedy/edens/ryan Xpressways in chicago in between 8pm and 1 am is scary tho too.

Mt Tam I am 10-17-2011 11:05 AM

The outcome will be fine. Getting there a small hassle. Sorry for you and the car.

As for the lady that hit you, she can go to hell. Maybe she will pay attention finally.

sstevens7 10-17-2011 01:14 PM

Just got off the phone with USAA.

They certify Procare Collision for me to take the Z into for inspection/repairs.

RavSpec - Mark - can I get that receipt for the Volk GT-S whel so that Procare can put that cost in with their total cost estimate?

Thanks all for the kind words!

More like stupid truck drivers. How often do you see these tanks driving down the road or poorly parked in shopping malls with nothing more than some little lady or otherwise single individual piloting this monstrosity! If you cant drive the car, or even have a use for that much space, please save us all the annoyance of watching you try.

didymus 10-17-2011 03:16 PM

Stupid is right.. that's really amazingly dumb

I am aware of that. I just am really new to this area and from looking at their web-site and from hearing what USAA had to say about them I figure I'll check them out.

All There work is warranted as well. However I am going to request a walk around their facilities to see how they operate and if I don't like something I'll have no shame pulling out of there and finding a new place.
