In American culture, a man's playtoys are always referred to as SHE/HER/etc. I think it is fair to call a car that is admired by many men a feminine name such "FAIRLADY".

That's actually a very good oberservation, and it is definitely at odds with the preference for masculine looking (lines that are described as "muscular") and masculine named cars in the U.S.

Although... weirdly, I refer to my car occasionally as "Zed" and "he" rather than "she". Didn't do that with my (awfully pretty and girly) Celica GT-S

It does make sense, however, do you also notice most of the US car maker named their sports car like Mustang, Corvette, VIPER??
