Default 370z vs 300zx

any suggestions and reasons for your suggestions 370z w/ sport pkg, 300zx swap to tt, 300zxtt. i want a track car that can be a daily driver. im going for performance not luxury here. im wanting 165mph+, 0-60 under 5 secs, a great handling car. i just need to know what the best way to start is. and dont mention the money im paying notes or taking time to upgrade.

ill be buying a car in a few months should i get a 300zx and swap a tt engine into it, buy a 300zxtt, or finance a 370z. i want a high performance track car thats a good value for the money and can still be a daily driver. all are good options but what is the best one i can afford the 370z w/ sport or i can buy a 300zxtt or i can buy a 300zx and later swap in a tt engine.

As a previous 300ZX NA owner, its a lot more cost effective to buy a TT off the bat unless you find a killer deal on a NA 300ZX with a blown engine and you have a similar good deal on a TT swap. But I will say you aren't comparing apples to apples. These are totally different animals. As for the upgrades, the TT can be boosted and gain a lot of HP with simple bolt-ons, intake, exhaust & ECU are simple and will give you some serious HP gains. Would be interesting to see a comparison of a stock 300ZX TT vs a stock 370. And a modded vs modded version of the same.

from what im to understand so far its 400rwhp with bolt ons for the 300zxtt and 500rwhp for the 370z and thats also about the end of the hold up point without internal work. stock to stock a 370z will decimate a 300zxtt in every test 0-60, top speed, skidpad, 60-0 braking. do you know of anything different? im conflicted about what to do.

I dont understand what the issue is. Get a car you like and enjoy it. As far as monsterous HP goes dont worry about it. It will come.

I read in a magazine a quote I really enjoyed when I thought tons of HP was king. "What is the difference between a 500 HP Supra and at 700HP supra? 1/10th."

I own a 370Z and a 1991 300ZXTT that I have owned for 13 years, I am the 2nd owner. My 300ZXTT has 90,000 miles on it and runs great. The 300ZXTT is still my favorite car even with my 370Z, but its close.

You can get far beyond 400rwhp with bolt ons on a 300ZXTT.

They are both great cars. Given the chance to go to the track I would probably take the 300ZX first, its faster than my 370Z, but I definitely want to take the 370 at some point too .

Currently the 300ZXTT has intake, exhaust, down pipes, test pipes, ecu, ebc, upgraded suspension, brakes, etc and I am in the middle of a bolt-ons project that will take it close to 500rwhp - new turbos (GT600R), 740cc injectors, dual air intakes, etc. I have all that stuff sitting at home about to be installed because, even though the car runs great, I have to pull the engine to replace the old, brittle EFI harness, so I may as well do everything while the engines out. I also have another job to do on it - pull the subframe because the bushings are worn. I will be busy this summer. which leads me to the downside of the 300ZX's.

The downside is its hard to find a good 300ZXTT for a price thats reasonable, and its 13-19 years old depending on the year you get, and there is alot of stuff to break on a 300ZX, and that stuff is expensive. I take great care of mine, and it only goes about 2-3K miles a year, yet I have a list of stuff I need to do to it. I've spent over $4K on it just this year, and as I get into these projects with it I am sure that will grow.

To summarize that last post: if the car will be your daily driver, get the 370Z.

Any time. You had a great post. Just a bit surprised that anyone might think a modded 13+ year-old car might be a suitable daily driver.

okay so this is helping so far. i want a great track running car but can be used as a daily driver. this means i dont want 1000hp. at the extreme limits i would want 750hp. Here is what im thinking. 750hp on xxpsi vs 500hp on say like 6-8 psi. I want an engine that can hold up to 750hp but run 500 for daily driving so i guess adjusting boost could help me with this. anyone know the hp limits of the stock 300zxtt engine and the 370z engine. does anyone have top speed on a 370z w/o limiter and whats a 300zxtt top speed stock.

Pardon me for asking, but have you ever tracked a car? Based on the HP numbers you are throwing out I would assume "NO" Unless by track, you mean Drag strip. If we are talking road course, I have plenty of friends making less than 200WHP that can put a good hurting on a Corvette making twice those numbers. 750 hp would be an unmaneageable beast to say nothing of it's potential for extensive maintenance and the need to beef up most every other system on the car. Track performance does not require brute horsepower. It requires finesse, balance and driving skilz. Top speed potential also does NOT enter into the equation. There are plenty of Miata's that could beat your mythical 750 hp car unless you are an expert driver.. Buy a 370Z and put your money into a good driving school. You'll go faster, look better doing it, and have way less aggravation..
