Yellow: yay or nay?
What does everybody think about the chicane yellow color? I searched the photo section and there are only 6 (small) threads regarding the yellow Z's.
Not sure how I feel either but I must say that I found this one to be stunning: http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...most-done.html http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...icture1558.jpg http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...icture1542.jpg http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...icture1543.jpg http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...icture1549.jpg So why are there not too many members with this color? |
Nicely done car but NAY!!!!! I just don't care for yellow on a car no matter what it is.
Well being the very proud owner of a CY, I give it an enthusiatic YEA! I see a few 350's in yellow, but since I bought mine in early '09 I have only seen one other yello 370 and it was in Phoenix. It's a beautiful color, and it's a pretty rare 370Z.

Yellow and carbon fiber would be sweet. Go for it. The only thing bad about it is that color dates the car. Don't like the tinted tail lights, but the wheels are perfect for that car.
You don't see very many because they were only made for one year.
NAY. No resale value & you will regret the yellow!
If it's you thing then get it. I would never honestly purchase a car with resale in mind.
Very aggressive color and it was only available in 2009 are reasons why you don't see more on the road.
I personally love it and previously had an Ultra Yellow 350z as well. |
I'm rockin' the yellow and loving every minute of it! It's a loud sports car color that attracts attention and stands out.
The only other color I would have liked more would have been Lambo orange! The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough! |
If you talk to Killerbee here on the forum, his yellow Z is amazing. He's got the CF hood and it stands out big time. Really clean, black wheels with the TA Stripe as well.
Go for it. I've only seen one once on the road and they look bad *** in person, pictures do it no justice.
Two kinds of vehicles on the road that are yellow: taxi cabs and school buses.
I like the yellow..but they are hard to find. I LOVE the blue (which is why I bought it)!
I've seen the yellow in person once on the road, it seems to be a very rare color.
the yellow / black goes well together, but I wouldn't do it. I've only only owned white and black cars, since my first car pretty much..I am a fan of some exotic colors, but I think I'd get tired of looking at the same wild color after awhile. |
Does the CY have a metal-flake? I gotta tell ya...the metal-flake paints just really POP!
My Z on GT5 is yellow n ridiculously hott! fully modded with carbon black accents. :happydance:I like yellow. But yellow needs a lot of care. It needs plenty of polishing, and an excellent quality wax to protect the car from the sun. I hate when people don't keep up with yellow cars. The sides look new and the topside looks old and shabby due to overexposure from the sun.
I dont want to offend any people who owns CY 370z but here is my honest opinion. That color will be the last color I'd get for my Z. Our Z in yellow seems......a bit cheap and non-sporty looking car. CY just doesnt seem right to me.

Yellow is a very difficult color in large volumes. Its often only done on one or two model years to pique interest in the model for specific buyers. Once they are satiated, the color is dropped.
There are also different shades of yellows and some are good...some not so good. I owned a 1992 Sunburst Miata for many years...a yellow that works well IMHO. Despite that, only 1500 were sold in a model year when more then 50K were sold. Just not for the masses. Mazda then came out with a different yellow 9 years later which doesn't really work. Went back to the 92' color code (with clear coat) for the their last yellow. Corvette tends to get the yellow right. I don't think Nissan did on the Z. Recently saw a new Eclipse in yellow: no good. The shade matters. - b |
Blondes or brunettes ... Babba, if you like yellow then get it, if you don't like it then don't. Your money, your personal car, your personal taste, your choice. AFAIK all colors look great on the Z, pick the one that you are most happy with. Welcome BTW.

yellow is by far one of the best colors you can get. it jumps out at you and gets noticed. i have a buddy that has a black z and he said no one really notices it... but on the other hand this one gets a lot of attention. when you think exotic (ferrari, lambo, etc) i wouldn't buy those cars in any other color other than yellow or red but to each his own
Yay: If this color was out in 10 I probably would have got it. I dont care about resale value, I buy a car I want not one someone else might want when I sell it.
Just say no to the crayola 8
Red Yellow Orange Green Blue Violet (purple) Brown Black |
There are some cars that I feel look good with yellow, for me the 370 isn't one of them.
However, that is a color that only came on the 2009 models.

I think the chicane yellow looks rather sickly and "light colored"... in some pictures. I would be curious to see who in this thread has actually seen it in real life, because in real life it absolutely pops and commands your attention. It's amazing, really, I have gotten SO many compliments on the color alone. It's a flat paint color so there is no metallic sparkle if that's something you are looking for. It shows swirls really easily in the sunlight so keep that in mind. It's definitely somewhat of a high maintenance color but IMO it's in the top 3 of all the 370 colors. It's my personal favorite because my school colors are black and gold, but even without that bias I think it's damn sexy.
I'm not sure how this color would somehow hurt resell value as long as you're keeping up with the maintenance. In fact, it would probably be worth more because it's more rare and cost more when it was made. Also, I've had my CY 370 next to an ultra yellow 350 and I MUCH preferred the chicane. The only other downside, IMO, is that everyone can tell you drive an 09, but honestly that's not a huge deal for me, I don't care about the "status" or whatever, I just like the car. |
i wouldnt

I would say nay as well....
Nay
Get what you like. Forget resale and what others think.
I like how the yellow looks at first glance, but am not sure I could live with it. I passed on a CY as a result when I was buying (at used Z's only), even though it had fewer miles than the one I settled on.
Yay.

Resale value is not affected, I don't know why that is assumed..
I like a CY Z next to my blue Z in pictures, I'll post up some pics later at home. the two colors contrast very nicely. But yeah I wouldn't want to own a yellow car unless its a lambo or ferrari and even then my choice would probably end up being red.

1. It does date the car, since it only came out that one year. Although that could also work in one's favor, since it is the rarest color offered. 2. Studies have been done that show certain colors sell better/worse on the second-hand market, although I don't know how yellow fares. Green is said to be the hardest to move, while Red seems to be the easiest. Of course, that study's a couple years old at this point. |

Look at the 2005 UY Z33 for example, it still fetches the same value as any other Z33 that is similarly equipped. At the end of the day it's a sports car so a wilder color is generally accepted. |
Yay
