You can submerge it in water like they did with the kings crown back in the day

Pay off current car and invest most of the rest into real estate.

TheGreatOne 09-08-2011 07:51 AM

Car related?

Pay off line of credit which would then let me sell current downtown condo for a nice house with a garage (although we don't want to go suburbs, so pricey town house)

Put a nice 10K into the garage for my Z to sleep nicely
Spend another 5-10K on the modifications I had on my wish list.

Pay off loans and other bills. But since this is a car forum and if I had to spend it on a car I buy either one of the following used but in very good condition:
Aston Martin DB9
Ferrari 360 Spider
Lamborghini Diablo VT

I used to think I'd want one of those exotic cars if I could afford it. I don't think I understood then what "affording" a car like that really means. The sticker price doesn't even begin to tell the story, and really an exotic is pointless unless you track it, and if you're tracking it that means "incidents" are going to happen too.

So for example, if I can barely afford to buy a $100K sportscar, I can't possibly afford to really enjoy it. The cheap way to track enjoyment is low-end cheap cars that make reasonable track platforms (e.g. used MX-5 Miatas). I'd like to think our 370Zs represent a nice middle of the road option though. More expensive to play with than a used Miata, but not as expensive to play with as a Porsche :)

1. Pay off my Z06, keep it until the C7Z06 came out.
2. Buy a Registered Drop In Auto-Sear for my Noveske AR build.
3. Save the rest of the $$ and add to it and in another 2 years buy a house/property.

On a serious note, when I went to a dealer to buy gold coins, I learned about how gold can be weighed and measured to ensure that it is legit. Apparently no other metal has the exact density of gold, so if a coin is actually gold, it will have a precise weight related to its circumference and thickness.

I guess they do the same thing with nuggets, although that would seem to be a bit more difficult, due the irregular surface/sizing.

Not hard at all, just put it in water and measure the volume displaced. Every element has an SG, or, specific gravity. Middle-school chemistry.

PowerShares DB Gold Double Short ETN: NYSE:DZZ quotes & news - Google Finance

... double-short gold

The gold lemmings are going to suffer all the way down to $1,200 an ounce!

2 weeks in Bora Bora with the family and cover expenses and pay down mortgage with whatevers left over.

BrianMSmith 09-10-2011 04:28 PM

Buy a vacation Condo. That's what I am doing now, but I'll have to do a mortgage without that cash laying around. Otherwise it would go into long term investments with the rest of my cash.

Car is perfect stock and will keep me happy for 5 years or so. Then I'd do a GTR maybe, or a Cayman.

BrianMSmith 09-10-2011 04:59 PM

I actually just "made" $132,000 in the last 10 minutes on the phone with my lender.

I got my mortgage refinanced into a 15 year at 3.6%, from a 30yr at 5.15%, which saves me $132k of interest.

I can't spend that money on cars for some years yet though.....

With the market dropping, money going into treasuries, the yield is down to record lows. Time to Cha Ching.

travisjb 09-10-2011 06:59 PM

nice... in a 5/1 at 3.25%... silver lining in this economy for sure
