Average miles on car...

this sounds like a stupid question... I own a 2009 370z and I just hit 38,000 miles on the clock... do you all think this is excessive for the year??? I'm debating buying a P.O.S. to trek around with on a daily basis :)

thanks!

Masa 08-30-2011 10:12 PM

Seems normal. I put around 1k per month on mine

It is going into storage in 3 months when winter sets in here.

cossie1600 08-30-2011 10:15 PM

You paying a $hitload for it, might as well enjoy it

So true Cossie... thanks for the input

Scorpio0124 08-30-2011 10:20 PM

Did u buy it new in 2009 or did it have miles on it already ? If you bought it new and you put on close to 40k in less than 3 years I would say it was a lot. Look at this way... 1000 miles x 12 months = 12k miles per yr x 3 years = 36K. and that would be if you had it for a complete 3 years, So your putting on more than 1000 miles a month or approx 250 - 300 miles per week on avg,, Yeah I think that would be a bit much at that rate u will get to 100K in no time... but then again..why did we buy it for.... :) enjoy

TreeSemdyZee 08-30-2011 11:19 PM

I bought in November '09 and have over 26k. soidunno.

Blackcrimzon 08-30-2011 11:45 PM

I bought mine brand new in Oct of 09 and I have 19500. But I am in the Navy and I have deployed twice for six months in the time since then. So if I hadn't deployed twice I would have had way more. I think that's about avg.

My_third_Z 08-31-2011 12:37 AM

I have an 09 model that I bought seven months ago. Whoever had it before me barely drove it, since I got it with <6000 miles on it. Since then I've put about another 6k on it, so I just hit the 12k mark.
Last week I bought an old pickup that will replace the car for my daily commute. It is a little difficult to justify a car payment for a car that will only be driven on the weekends, but I only spent $1600 on my truck. I figure I'll make back that $1600 if I ever decide to sell the Z, since I'll be saving a lot of mileage and wear and tear on it.

jaedub 08-31-2011 01:03 AM

The avg. mileage on a car is 15k per year. I've owned my car for 18 months now and I still havent hit 10k yet

houkouonchi 08-31-2011 01:53 AM

I have as '10 which I bought in late June of last year (so 14 months). I have like almost 25k miles on it now.

Bromotoz 08-31-2011 07:16 AM

I purchased mine in July of ’09 and have only 6k miles on it. :p

I have a Ford E-250 daily driver. I only paid a grand for it. So this is what I drive when it rains or if I need to park in a busy parking lot. The best thousand bucks I've ever spent!

My Z only sees the weekend sunshine.

alejo 08-31-2011 07:56 AM

I bought mine in Dec '10, so far I have 14k and it hasn't even been a year... Thats because I enjoy it a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :happydance::driving:

edub370 08-31-2011 08:39 AM

09 w/ 17k on it... but it only comes out on weekends, so i cheat

LT419 08-31-2011 08:51 AM

I've got 4500 miles on mine.. had it since April. But that includes a 1700 mile round-trip to South Carolina... and a few trips to Syracuse (probably 1500 miles altogether).

USMCASA 08-31-2011 08:59 AM

71k on my 09 and all my doing... still fun no issues **knocks on wood**

cc370z 08-31-2011 10:37 AM

39k on my 09. DD for me and it's been great.

m4a1mustang 08-31-2011 10:39 AM

I put 27k on my 370 in the 18 months I owned it.

Come Sunday I will have had my Mustang for a year and I've got just about 20k on it.

ProfessorDave 08-31-2011 12:12 PM

There will definitely by 2 sets of data here - those who have a DD/2nd vehicle and those who drive the Z exclusively. I'm in the former group and I have 9600 miles on my 09, purchased 14 months ago with 4600 miles on it. Dec-Mar I probably only drive it once a week on average. I use it daily when the weather is good.

Good to see owners with some serious miles on the car without too many problems.

CC_370z 08-31-2011 12:18 PM

I have 2009 370z Touring 7AT, almost 7700 miles on it. I'm on my CBR1000R or 2011 Accord Coupe most of the time.

errett 08-31-2011 09:13 PM

2010 bought new in March of 2010 and just crossed 6000 miles.

I still smile every time I look in the garage!

E

ihatepotholes 09-01-2011 12:19 AM

got it in april, i have about 2800 miles on it

xdeslitx 09-01-2011 12:21 AM

bought mine a year and 1 week ago

got 17,500 miles

370zgal 09-01-2011 10:11 AM

Bought a '09 about 15 months ago and it has about 4000 miles on it. Pretty much a garage queen that is used on road trips exclusively. I have a Mini as a daily driver.

MattP725 09-01-2011 02:15 PM

Mazda3 as a daily driver... I put about 600-700mi a month on the Z (my 06 Mazda3 already has 125k).

12-15k a year is average for a DD so you are a bit high but not astronomically.
Question is would you make up the cost of a beater in savings on the Z and most likely you wouldn't in your case.

Phew, glad to know I'm not the only one with high mileage. Well, not as high as yours, but approaching 44k. Got it in the first week of May right at 35.5k. I'm sure this car will last long as you take care of it. I've had 0 issues so far.

indeed, i'll probably keep it forevaR

74k now btw:happydance::driving:

Skeeterbop 09-28-2011 08:25 PM

Had it for 6 months so far and it is up to 8600 miles. and 3 months was spent sitting while I was deployed. Racking up the miles!

Rone 09-28-2011 09:01 PM

That is crapload for me. I put 8k on my altima in one year and it was my daily. I haven't had my Z long enough to tell if I drive it a lot.

PapoZalsa 09-28-2011 09:09 PM

Mine is 2009 with 7K miles.

Masa 09-29-2011 06:15 AM

Got a 11' and it has 7600 miles on it since I got it in February. You're paying $$$ for the car you may as well enjoy it as often as possible. :)

I will however be putting it in storage in a couple of months when winter sets in, I figure from beginning of December through around March.

SS66 09-29-2011 02:23 PM

I don't know what the hell I am doing other than leaving mine in the garage. 2011 bought new on 04/16/11 and to date it has 948 miles on it. Bought in LaGrange IL it had 11 miles on it. Drove it back from Chicago and it had 541 miles on it. Since I got it home drove it 411 miles. As mentioned 948 to date.
I still like the car alot and glad I bought it.

practically brand new

LunaZ 09-30-2011 05:39 PM

2009 with just a tick over 17K miles.

I daily drive it in fair weather during the warm months, it's been on a couple of road trips and on a nice Sunday, it's easy for me to go out for a couple of hours just to have fun.
On the other hand, I typically don't drive it in the rain and it gets parked December through March to keep it out of the snow and late winter salt and cinders.
Pretty low mileage for a 2009, but kind of a lot if you consider I only drive it eight months out of the year. Somebody who's better at math than I am could estimate what my mileage would be if I drove it all the time.

Not a stupid question.

Unless you can afford to garage it and treat it as a weekend toy, then just drive your car and enjoy it. Take care of it, perform all scheduled maintenance, and you should easily get 250k - 300k miles out of it.

You sound young, so drive your car, save your money for a house, get your finances under control, and then get a weekend toy. Maybe by then your current Z can become your daily driver/beater.

Purchase date 8/20/11 and I've got 353. Daily driver with a 14 mile round trip commute. Was out of town for ten days right after I got the car.

jujitsu 09-30-2011 08:54 PM

I put in an average of 1200 miles/month. It's mostly freeway miles. It's my daily driver car. I love driving my car every day.
