The next generation of the Z will not have a VDC off button thanks to people crashing their cars

Lol.. Then they will effectively kill decent track times. Never happen

Apparently you haven't read the gazillion posts about VDC should be on all the time....

Sure I have but I'm also one of the few that disagrees with that and can actually drive a car. You know there was a time when cars never had nannies.

Hey, I don't disagree with you. You are talking to someone who lost $250 at the rallycross because of a stupid stability control on a Prius.

There is no way I read this. :pics:

See avatar.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but the point is that VDC is great for people who can't drive. With that in mind, I believe the bad drivers will take over and we will all be forced with it.

Cossie you have to go into more detail on this, I'm so curious lol...did you lose because you had it off or did you lose because you had it on?

Sorry have to hide my name for insurance reason since the car wasn't really mine.....

Prius doesn't allow you to spin tires or defeat the stability control, I was basically driving with my elbows on the window sill since it was so boring. I think top 2 or 3 wins money or tires, I finished 5th and I had a faster pace than the 2nd or 3rd place guys. I forked myself over when I got stuck in a semi snow bank at the last turn of the last run. Once you are in, it takes forever to get out since you can't spin any tires in the car.

Without getting carried away, I just want to say we will all be driving cars with no VDC off button. Sports cars or not, we can all thank the wonderful drivers in modern times.

Oh yeah, I conducted a test with the VDC on the 370. It was like 6 or 8 sec slower over a 4 mile course. So don't listen to the BS about how great the VDC on the Z is. It is garbage.

lolz I also am a proponent of turning the VDC off on occasion. My posts were sarcastic

But I do use the VDC sometimes (like rainy or slick conditions, or when I'm just cruising). But it gets turned off most of the time. And I don't think it dictates driving skill either way until you're going flat-out at an Auto-X or racing circuit. For daily use, it really doesn't matter.

6-8 seconds is probably overstating the invasiveness of vdc. Given that your lap times are solid, but not earth-shattering, have you considered that maybe the people that talk about driving smooth have something valid to say?

I picked up about 3-4 seconds on a tight autoX course by shutting off vdc when I started. The gap has gotten closer as I've gotten better, down to maybe half a second, unless there are a lot of places that require rotating.
It can be annoying on a lot of courses, and I will continue to shut it off on the track, but it's not nearly as problematic as it is made out to be.
plenty of people lay hot lap times with vdc on.

cossie1600 08-10-2011 10:03 AM

there is nothing wrong with vdc, i just dont brag about it or tell everyone they need it.

i posted a video on vdc on vs off at vir, you decide if i was smooth or not. this is a 370z, not a f1 or lemans or even a m3. the vdc is nowhere as good as it is on the other expensive cars.
