That's my exact point. Some cops are just a-holes. That's a fact. Some cities in my area are NOTORIOUS for cops like that. So my point is, yes it IS legal to pass a cop safely and within the speed limit, but like I said, I wouldn't do it because I don't want the attention and don't want to give him a REASON whatsoever to pull me over...

:iagree: 100%

^ esp when they see sports cars. Then they see a relatively young guy driving it? Recipe for disaster. Then you PASS him? ........ why risk it?

sounds like america is a police state or something. Thankfully over here you can't get pulled over without probable cause. Any charges, no matter how guilty get dismissed in court if no probable cause was there for the traffic stop.

Actually, traffic laws vary wildly from state to state in the :usa:, and so do police attitudes. In MD, I get away with a lot that I couldn't get away with in VA.

It really depends on the cop, you can never guess what mood they are going to be in, it's like playing Russian Roulette. I have had cops gesture to me to do wheelies while riding my motorcycle on the highway. I obliged, they thanked me for the show and went on my merry way.

Do you pass, or deal with it until he turns off?:ugh2:

I passed one once and got popped for it. He stated that I was tailgating him so badly he couldn't see my headlights. I call BS. I think he was just out to give me a hard time. Granted, he didn't ticket me and that was cool and all, but still.......

Only people with something to hide wouldn't pass imo

I'm in Toronto too. The thing is that even if they don't have probable cause, and they want to give you a hard time, you still have to show up and fight it which is a pain in the a**, and a huge waste of time. You'll end up spending way more time trying to get rid of the charge than the time you would have saved if you got away with going faster lol

Armonster 07-27-2011 03:46 PM

Gotta love the formula though. Give people big cars with big engines, roads with wide lanes that could easily handle high speeds, and then set a speed limit that is about 15-30mph too slow to be a "maximum" speed (depending on the road).

That way, everyone drives faster than the speed limit by default. And then the police have the option of pulling over whoever they want.

Seriously, if you drive 55 on the interstate around Atlanta, you will die. In practice, it's 70 minimum, but 80 is standard.

Im assuming this is a highway scenario lol and not a backroad or something where your behind the cop and your going to go around on a passing lane to pass him lol. Highway scenario - pass...

Armonster :iagree: lol so true.

Totally disagree. Sometimes you might want to just go with the flow for a while and see why the cop's going so slow. Sometimes there's something to be said for maintaining a small target on yourself, even if you've done nothing wrong, because a hassle is a hassle. Being pulled over for 20 minutes when you've got somewhere to go sucks, whether you end up with a ticket or not.

Now if a cop flashed his lights at you when you tried to pass, then there was probably another reason which I could understand. And to your point of being somewhere 5 minutes faster, why show up 5 minutes later when you are within the legal limit?

Yea thats why I always throw back a strong gin and tonic before I get behind the wheel... Why not buzz up to the legal limit?

joking.... totally joking. I never drink a drop before driving

Where are you guys that you see all these cops going UNDER the limit? In NOVA, I can tell which are the cops and which arent cause they're the ones going at least 15-20 mph over the limit when noone else is.

Thats what I used to say till last night I ran across this situation and funny thing is I passed because I was thinking of this thread lol and guess what happened I got pulled over and I was forced to get out of my car and let these two douches search through my car for HALF AN HOUR mind you it was 12:30a.m. so I kept insisting to the cops trust me man there is nothing in there officers can I please just go home I got work at 8a.m. and they just continued then they finally let me go and one of them told me I need new tints because mines where too dark?......are you serious did he really expect me to believe he pulled me over cause of my tints and not the fact im a 22 year old cuban male driving a nice sports car?Idk man some ppl just like to hate and I get this alot from cops here in miami its clearly harassment but that doesn't look like its going change they are all pretty much like this here so Im gonna end on this note just play it safe and dont pass unless you want to risk loosing 30-60 minutes of your life for nothing and get disrespected in the process not to mention they asked for my ID but never even bothered to run it in their database one of the officers just had it in their hand the entire time
