Nissan 370Z-Dumb A$$ magnet
Going out to dinner last night we needed to stop at Kinko's on the way. I pull into the mall parking lot as someone is backing out of their space. I stopped but they kept backing towards me. I honked they kept coming. I honked some more they kept coming. Just before they hit me I threw it in reverse but only made it a few feet because in my haste I stalled it. So I'm laying on the horn when they finally stopped backing and drove off. Wheww that was a close one.
Dumb A$$ After dinner we are heading home about 9 pm. We are on a busy four lane road (for those of you in Austin, Oltorf in front of Travis High), when we top a hill there is a car in the middle of the road attempting a three point turn around. I might has been able to stop but as they are in the backing phase I decided to jump to the outside lane and drive past them, surely they see me coming with head lights on. As I'm going past them they throw it in drive and ram us! Dumb A$$ Drivers rear quarter dented, wheel and bumper scuffed. Other driver has no license, no insurance, isn't sure of her address and had an unrestrained child in the car. She thought she could drive because her baby's daddy has a license. F**K! Off to the body shop now. I've put 1400 miles on the car since I got it. When we bought my wife's Acura TL it lasted two weeks before somebody hit it while parked and them drove off. $5200. More stuff more problems, I'm learning. |
I agree. I get the same thing all the time since I got this car. It seems like I am dodging other vehicles constantly even though I am going the speed limit and driving conservative. People just seem to drift towards me all the time on and off the state. Its crazy. This car is my daily driver and i love it that way, but I now see why some people only take their toys out on weekends. I wouldnt even bother buying a car over 60g. I would be to afraid of taking it any where ever. Its pretty damn sad.

sorry to hear. :(

in all reality though it is sad that there are people that stupid. :shakes head:

Wow that sucks! I drive a lot, so I see many, many dumb driver moves. I've learned that when anyone is performing a peculiar task with their automobile just give them space and shake your head.
|
Concerning the other driver... Welcome to America! Land of the free and home of the people who are too concerned with being politically correct to stop laying off people due to exceeding budgets in order to give these people free meals, healthcare and $20 - $30 an hour worth of other benefits thank to YOUR tax dollars.

increased insurance rates for 370Zs coming our way.

already got smacked in the face with my increased rate yesterday

If you would have waited, for her to finish her turn around, the accident would not have happened! |

^ I agree too.... sorry OP.
|
^ what the last several posters just said. Sorry
If I see indecision in another driver’s behavior, I just hang back and wait for them to do what the need to do. An extra 30 seconds of waiting wont hurt you but could hurt your car.......... I hope your car is repaired and back on the road quickly! |

Sorry about your situation. |
I said I "might" have been able to stop, if not I T-bone her. I'm the most conservative driver I know because I've been working wrecks for over 18 yrs now and I see the results everyday. I still have fun with the Z but not with other cars around and I wasn't trying to have fun last night dodging idiots.
Luckily all parts are salvageable but I'm not thrilled about having the rim polished and re-powder coated. |
And don't forget the part about topping the hill and having the car in front of me.
|
ugh that sucks man.
my 6 month Gieco policy is up in a month....cant wait to get dry humped with my new rate! |

Dude I would have just called the cops and have them take her away. The child is obviously not in the best of hands.

I have been driving for 40 years now with only 1 accident where some dumb a** started to make a left in front of me, saw she wouldn't be able to make it and stopped right in the middle of the intersection ! 2 cars totaled was the result and she was cited.
I have always subscribed to 2 philosophies: 1) drive like a fighter pilot. But defensively, not offensively of course. Keep your eyes moving at all times in a 360 degree direction scanning for threats and always position yourself in lanes where you have some room for maneuvering. Pay attention to what you are doing when in charge of a 3000 lb missile doing 70 MPH. You don't need a nav. screen, phone, large Starbucks and other crap to distract you. This also assumes that you are driving a vehicle that is "fighter plane" like with outstanding handling and brakes and not a 3 ton SUV that handles like a pig on stilts and will turn turtle if you have to make any sudden moves. 2) The Bell Curve theory. This means that 1/2 of the people that you come across at any given moment are dumber than average. That is pretty bad odds. Anticipate the worst and the unexpected. You will survive longer. |
I don't understand why some people think I could have been at fault. This is my first accident behind the wheel in 32 years of driving. I said I might have been able to stop but in the milliseconds of time to make my decision I choose otherwise. I did call the cops and she got three tickets blah blah blah.
This is a tough crowd. |
I'm surprised she didn't get arrested? Maybe they're a little more easy going in Texas but up here she would have been in handcuffs. I don't think you were at fault at all, you did what you could to avoid a collision, slamming on the brakes isn't always the best choice.

People are just stupid. The cars involved are incidental.

Honestly, what part of that other car's story screamed out that they're predictable and intelligent? U-turn on a 4 lane busy street at night over the crest of a hill... My first thought is to keep my car as far away from theirs as possible, because they're attempting to win a Darwin Award. |

I love politics! But that’s quite a jump you made to assume she doesn’t have a job or is on welfare. You don’t need a license to have a job. So she very well could not be on employment or welfare. :shakes head: Quote:

I based my judgment on your post, due to an over pass I use daily. It's "blind going up both sides", you can not see what is on the other side due to the angle of climb! "Go to fast, you'll meet new people", not a nice way too meet some one! |

OP, how fast were you going up the hill where what's on the other side of the apex was blind to you, and therefore left you no reaction time?
|
The dang speed limit.
|
I lived in the Travis Oaks condos on Post Rd by Otlorf @ S. Congress for two years. I know the exact hill you speak of extremely well, and I understand exactly how you could be driving the speed limit and suddenly encounter an obstacle without having sufficient time to come to a full stop. Absolutely insane that someone would be pulling that kind of stunt in that location as well :shakes head:
In Texas it is an absolute necessity to have uninsured motorist coverage. If the person doesn't have a license, cops get called (or they're handing me serious cold hard cash). Good luck with your situation. |
That sucks man. Had some incidents with some dumbazz drivers myself. Had a lady in a pick up truck look both ways and see nothing before starting to turn right from the highway off ramp. Then after she started going, I lifted my foot off the brake to move up and to see for myself if there was traffic coming. Looked left and everything was clear, started to look right and saw her brake lights on after she slammed on her brakes. I rear ended her because I didn't have enough time to get to the brakes. No other cars on the road or any where near us so I have no clue why the hell she slammed on her brakes :shakes head:
Just yesterday, I was stopped at a red light and a guy was turning left from the road to my right. He had his head stuck out the window while turning too fast and nearly hit my car. I swear it was like he was trying to lick my car with his tongue out or something. |
Defensive Driving -> ALWAYS
I practice defensive driving techniques that I learned from one of my first jobs that required me to drive small refueling trucks. Always have a way out and make sure you see that they see you. Most people flinch when honked at and I have seen one drive through the wall of an office building because of an unrelated honk somewhere else in the parking lot. She told the police that she thought her foot was on the brake!

Surprised to hear that since you live in NY. I used it for the first time when I went there last weekend. Before that I had only used it once just to hear what it sounded like. :icon17: |
^ You know... funny you guys mention this. It made me think. I don't think I have ever heard my horn. Period.
LOL. I need to go push it later... just to hear it. |
I had experienced a pretty shocking occurance as well. I was making a left turn in an intersection and had merged in already, when a lady that had been stopped at the light with a red (she was sitting there for at least 20 seconds at a complete stop) just decided to floor it!!! like WTF? she litterally ran a red after she had already been stopped for 20 seconds.......I couldn't believe my eyes. I had to slam on the brakes so she wouldn't t-bone me! This just goes to show how you can never be too careful and trust no one.
