According to a second poster you can come over this hill at the speed limit and be right on someone before you realize it. The OP also said he wasn't sure if he was going to stop in time so he made the decision to attempt to swerve around the person.

Oh man, I remember riding in my grandpa's caddy. He'd honk at freakin every single car to make sure they saw him. It was completely ridiculous.

I honked my horn once just to hear it about a year ago.

I also used my horn last week trying to get the geese to move off the side of the road on the divided hiway. The horn is weak and the geese didn't care. They were Canadian after all. :driving:

It almost sounds like you didn't look right to see if it was a clear and assumed she wouldn't stopped.

Defensive driving courses would state to use the left-right-left tip of looking before doing a turn.
