According to a second poster you can come over this hill at the speed limit and be right on someone before you realize it. The OP also said he wasn't sure if he was going to stop in time so he made the decision to attempt to swerve around the person.

OP NOT to blame. /thread

She told the police that she thought her foot was on the brake!

Oh man, I remember riding in my grandpa's caddy. He'd honk at freakin every single car to make sure they saw him. It was completely ridiculous.

I honked my horn once just to hear it about a year ago.

I also used my horn last week trying to get the geese to move off the side of the road on the divided hiway. The horn is weak and the geese didn't care. They were Canadian after all. :driving:

Then after she started going, I lifted my foot off the brake to move up and to see for myself if there was traffic coming. Looked left and everything was clear, started to look right and saw her brake lights on after she slammed on her brakes. I rear ended her because I didn't have enough time to get to the brakes. No other cars on the road or any where near us so I have no clue why the hell she slammed on her brakes :shakes head:.

It almost sounds like you didn't look right to see if it was a clear and assumed she wouldn't stopped.

Defensive driving courses would state to use the left-right-left tip of looking before doing a turn.

Actually I was turning my head to look right when my car hit the truck. I could not see the road clearly where I was so I took my foot off the brake to slowly move forward enough to see the road. I guess I should have waited for her to be completely out of the exit ramp and onto the road before moving my car.
