Serious saftey issue...

So my passenger side seat does not detect my G/F when shes riding shotgun, it turns itself off. She is hella short and only weighs about 105lbs. Is there a way to turn this option on all the time? I remember my old cars used to have a key to turn it on and off. Any ideas?

Somberlaine 06-30-2011 08:53 PM

am inclined to say there is something wrong with the sensor...i would take it to the dealership.

Duplicity807 06-30-2011 09:05 PM

The airbag sensors turn off when it detects a supposed child / baby (or in your case a very lightweight G/F) because the airbags deploying could kill / injure them in an event of an accident.

Ding!
It is a weight sensor and is for the persons safety. Way to override it? Hand her a heavy bag...

JrumMusic 06-30-2011 09:12 PM

Very good point, better drive safer when shes inside the whip, thanks guys. Guessing theres no way to override this?

kenchan 06-30-2011 10:28 PM

I would leave it alone.

dude, i'm having EXACTLY the same issue! That's so strange that I saw this.

Methodical4u 06-30-2011 11:19 PM

weight isn't the issue... my Fiancee is 5'6 135 lbs and it's doing this... this is a car issue and a serious safety one at that as the OP said. I'll be taking mine to Nissan either tomorrow or monday.

The thing is its OFF when nothing is in the seat of course, then when she sits on it, it lights UP OFF. so...Im concerned now. And probably will be taking my car to the dealership also.

if the sensors aren't any better than this then we'll be seeing a recall on them soon. If my Fiancee were to get hurt because of that thing... i'd be suing the hell out of Nissan.

Well lets just hope a major accident doesnt happen for ANYONE! =]

It might be doing it on purpose as stated above, I have no idea.

poorazn 06-30-2011 11:58 PM

wow, I actually just had this happen for the first time today with my gf in the passenger seat. I ?guess? its for her safety that its turned off?

My Fiancee bounced in the seat and the light went off... I thought at first it was maybe the speed or something and it came on at higher speeds, but it just goes on and off on it's own.

cc370z 07-01-2011 12:34 AM

Maybe the Z's are just jealous?? J/K... I would say it's dealer time

11Thumper 07-01-2011 01:34 AM

My '11 just started doing this. It's strange that the airbag off light doesn't illuminate with nothing in the seat, but if I through a case of beer on there it lights up. Also, sometimes (but not all the time) when my lady sits in the seat it lights up. She's 5'7" and about 115 lbs.

Has anyone taken this to the dealer to have it looked at? If so, what was the result?

I have noticed the same problem when girls ride up front in the car. The sensor doesn't recognize their weight and turns the airbag off. But if the step out and I do the quick on-off sometimes it works.

Lemers 07-01-2011 08:19 AM

In order to diagnose if this is truly a sensor issue we need a full body picture of the girlfrien in a bikini (bra and panties will work too)

^^^lolers

OP, just tell your girl to bring you a sandwhich and a drink everytime she gets in the car. That should be enough to keep the light off. It's a serious safety issue if she doesn't do this.

Airbag does not come on with my girl in the seat either. Funny, its like my Z wants to kill small skinny girls but save the fat ones.

shadoquad 07-01-2011 10:04 AM

You date a skinny girl. The "no air bags" light is coming on. Maybe it's not disabling the function, rather it's telling you to date better endowed women.

Was wondering when someone was going to call out all of the pedo's on this forum...

I can see it now... 20/20 special: the370z.com - safehaven for pedophiles to share stories of their issues... and frost's own personal twisted playground.
