Question Thinking a bout trading in 09 maxima for 370z

I have a 2009 maxima base model, with 21,500 miles.
Excellent condition.

I'm looking to get a Black or dark silver 09 Touring+auto, or Base+auto 370z.
What's the best possibility for both worlds you think?

What should I aim for, for the maxima, and what could the 09 z be gotten for?
Maxima is nice, but I'm single, no family, plus, the z is a slicker looking car.

Try and sell the Max before you trade.

Are there any threads about 370z vs Maxima TCO?
I'm hearing the overall TCO on z is a lot higher, everything from tuneups, to having to buy new tires a lot?

What's a good guestimation for tire cost for Z? how often do they have to be swapped out, since they can't be rotated?

Tires can cost anywhere from $200 each to $350 each depending on the brand and where you purchase. The summer tires last about 20,000 give or take, so roughly every two years. Insurance is gonna be higher than the Maxima also. Overall, the maintenance cost is roughly the same if you intend on doing some of the work yourself. Some dealers charge around $90 for an oil change using Ester oil for example. "Tune ups" will be the same as the Max, but any sort of modifications like an exhaust upgrade will usually be more expensive. The little things tend to add up and your pockets will be empty before you know it with this car. It's all worth it to me though. You only live once, right?

Do what I did. Keep the Maxima as a daily driver and buy a Z for fun.

if you do decide to sell, get a free appraisal at carmax. their offers are usually pretty good especially if your car is stock.

i can vouch for this. carmax offered me the most on my previous car. i had to negotiate with the dealers to even get them close to carmax's offer.

Well, I know carmax is the quickest approach to getting a Z, but I hear they sell cars at a higher price then getting a used equivalent elsewhere. Sure I may be getting a good deal on the tradein, but if they typically sell cars at a marked up rate, doesn't this negate what you are getting for their "good/decent" trade in offer?

http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...i=5&id=7418944 - this is an example
Seems overpriced? for 16k miles etc......

I'm comparing it to the "sticky" thread that has msrp/invoice prices for 09's etc.

Step 1, find said Z you are looking for (doesn't have to be at carmax)
Step 2, negotiate deal for Z at said location
Step 3, go to carmax and sell your car
Step 4, go back to dealer with cash in hand (if any left over after paying off your loan) to put down on the Z.

It's that simple. You don't have to buy your Z at carmax to sell your maxima at carmax. The only way you will be screwed is if you owe more than trade in value on your maxima. Then you are stuck trading in wherever you are buying the Z so that they can roll over the negative equity into the new Z loan. Then again if you are upside down on your maxima I don't recomend getting into a Z at this time.

For what I owe, and what KBB says for "private party", I have about $9,000 in equity, or $7500-$8000 equity for trade in.

Just trying to get sound advice, since it seems Z's hold their value well, as do maximas. I can't tell what's a good price for a used 09 auto base Z, or touring auto Z(09) etc.

What's a good reference to go against Carmax's offer.
Simply KBB? etc?

yah, i used KBB's 'GOOD' price if your car is in excellent condition.

make sure your car is stock before you take it in for the best appraisal...although if you bring the stock parts with they will give you some money for them.

Excellent $25,075
Good $23,775
Fair $21,425

Those are the figures I got back from KBB for mycar, for "trade in value", not private party sell.

Here is private party value:
Excellent $26,790
Good $25,390
Fair $23,290

I owe about $13k on the maxima still, so hopefully I'll have roughly $10k equity if they give the trade in good value. Will chop off a good amount towards the Z.
