if they were priced the same then i would probably go with the gtr but i would b pissed upon leaving because what nissan doesnt typically tell ppl is that if you buy one, u have to register it either for track or for street and if u register it for street and u take it over a certain speed(i dont remember the exact speed....but i know its less than the z's speed limiter kicks in) then the black box records it and it voids ur warranty through nissan so that would piss me off

Can anyone verify that? I've read about the GPS tracking you on track or roads on automatically changing setting but I always thought it was crap. Is the black box thing correct?

No, the only 'warranty' voiding Nissan looks at for the GT-R was in 09 with people messing with the launch control but even then that got blown out of proportion.
What Nissan did was in Japan create a link in with the GPS to remove the speed limiter when you are at a track. Nissan GT-R recognizes tracks via GPS, removes speed limiter — Autoblog

Most new cars have a black box even your Z. That doesn't mean Nissan reviews the data with each service.

Just looked on yahoo autos. There is a black GTR 28k miles for $40k. Too bad it 1300 miles from me.

I hope our black box (if we have one) won't screw people over. I've been to high speeds in the Z and who knows how fast the guy before has been.

There is a 2010 GTR on cars.com w/ 1771 miles for $25k. Does that sound kinda fraudulent to you?

Definitely. Maybe it has a blown trans that was never repaired, but that's assuming there is at least a bit of legitimacy with that posting.

If the car exists I would absolutely take it to the Nissan dealer for a look over.

Personally, after hearing horror stories about GTR insurance/maintenance/repair costs and the fact that its a dime a dozen from where i come from, i would have chosen a Z anyway...

However, am sure it would be fun to just drive the GTR for a week or two, just to experience Nissan's finest...
If the 370Z and the GT-R were the same price I would have saved a lot of money and skipped over the Z06 and gone with a GT-R for half the price. No-brainer. So yeah.

The GTR records oil and gearbox temps and can see if there has been any messing with the ECU or Cobb presence. The car has to have a post inspection if you track it and depending on where your temps hit, an oil change. It's the main gripe as our Porsche "friends" dont have any of this nonsense or expense!

This is for UK cars but assume it applies elsewhere.

Wait, Nissan is trying to help the owners by doing safety inspection on the car and prevent future problems? Sorry, it just sounds like you are trying to complain about the car for no reason other than Nissan being protective.
Honestly, you should be doing this anyways if you track your car. Maybe not every single event but regularly depending on how often you are at the track.

Trust me, it's nothing to do with helping anyone other than themselves to a nice bit of labour charges. It's not free and it's all part of the warranty scam!

I reckon I know whether i need new tyres, pads, discs or tranny oil! You're right I should be doing it......not someone from Nissan for a fee!
